Health warning for all Freepers using the Baking Soda / Dakin's Solution Oral Hygiene Protocol
Vanity from Swordmaker | September 26, 2014 | Swordmaker

IMPORTANT! HEALTH WARNING!

FOR ALL FREEPERS WHO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE BAKING SODA AND CLOROX-DAKIN'S SOLUTION PROTOCOL FOR ORAL HYGIENE AND TOOTH BRUSHING!!!

The CLOROX Company has changed its basic Clorox formula to make it "concentrated" but has ALSO added LAUNDRY chemicals!

I just went to the Clorox™ website because I noticed the "concentrated" label on that bottle you linked to and it worried me. . . I wanted to check what the concentration of Sodium Hypochlorite was in their "concentrated" product. . . and to my horror I learned that Clorox has CHANGED their entire product line. . . and their cap coding too!!!!

Clorox has just CHANGED all the formulas for CLOROX!!!!! They have tossed out the good old stand-by that has been a century old and replaced it with JUNK New formula with adulterations!!! They are also using the SAME COLOR CAP ON EVERY VARIETY!!!!!! They've thrown the baby out with the bathwater. I would NOT, REPEAT NOT!!! use any CLOROX product for hygienic use on the human body until further notice!!!!!

All of their Clorox Bleach Products now are being sold with the same color blue cap, instead of their old color coded cap system, where the dark blue cap indicated an unadulterated pure Sodium Hypochlorite Bleach product. Now they ALL have the dark blue cap! But that doesn't matter because ALL products have adulterations.

They do not make it easy to lean what the concentration is, but WORSE ALL of the Clorox products are now ADULTERATED with laundry additives.

Even the Product Safety Sheets do not list the concentrations of the ingredients. . . nor is the old original pure Clorox even listed any more. Apparently such data is now a corporate secret.

There seems to be no pure bleach Clorox anymore. I cannot find the old product at all on their website! At this point I do not know what substitutes there are for the discontinues product. . . but do NOT feel safe by using any Clorox product in your mouth!

For example their Regular Clorox now includes: "Sodium polyacrylate is used in laundry detergents to prevent soils from depositing on fabrics during the laundry cycle."

Another with the another blue cap bleach bottle which just says "Clorox" but at the bottom lists "High Efficiency" also adds an additional ingredient of "Sodium Xylene Sulfanate"!

I have sent an email to our doctors appraising them of the situation because this has been an important product for protocols for tooth and health care in our implant Dentistry practice.

WHAT IN HELL ARE THEY THINKING!!!!

Doesn’t coconut oil have the same germ fighting ability?

Agreed - I use peroxide also. Never heard of this other method.

I’ve been using the plain old Clorox as an all purpose disinfectant cleaner for more than fifty years and specifically for a rinse handwashing dishes, both at home and while camping. The scented ones leave a coating that seems to stay on even after a clear water rinse. Not conducive to dining.

Seems like Clorox is betting than clothes washing is now their only target market.

If it is any help, look at the ingredients of “pool shock” commonly sold at Walmart to kill bacteria in backyard pool water. It is about 50% sodium hypochlorite. The issue is that they don’t really say what the other 50% is.

Me? I use it in a small quantity from time to time to kill the bugs in the toilet bowl that cause the brown ring.

I have been using regular old 99c bleach to rinse my mouth for about 5 years. 1 teaspoon to a cup of water. Hygienist said...well the studies all say use Clorox but wow! Great job! lol
I went and bought more 99c store bleach.

Ordinary powdered baking soda (pH 9.5) is a specific for oral spirochetes, killing them in about 5 seconds. Baking soda toothpaste is not concentrated enough.

Importantly, some added benefit comes from mixing powdered baking soda with table salt, which was the popular combination for brushing teeth prior to toothpaste.

A warm, salty gargle is regarded as the premier general purpose mouth hygiene and therapy gargle for oral and throat problems, which probably explains the benefit.

Ping...This has implications for water purification, too.

Preppers’ PING!!

Hat tip to Smokin’ Joe and Tilted Irish Kilt for the heads up.

I have never recommended Clorox bleach for prepper storage. I do recommend:

Better than Bleach: Use Calcium Hypochlorite to Disinfect Water

http://readynutrition.com/resources/better-than-bleach-use-calcium-hypochlorite-to-disinfect-water_19062010/

Additional you need to be able to treat water with multiple methods as Bleach doesn’t kill everything and doesn’t nothing to treat/remove toxic contaminates.

Does distilling water remove toxins?

If not, what will? Reverse osmosis?

Who buys Clorox for regular bleach? Look at the label for ingredients, buy the store generic. They seem to be just sodium hypochlorite for what I’ve seen at Wal-Mart and Home Depot.

Distilling works as long as the toxins boiling point is higher than that of water and distilling takes a lot of energy.

Reverse osmosis is good, but you must have a power source.

We may switch our patients to Ozonated water. . . I've been thinking of buying an Ozone generator and an O2 Bottle, regulator and Ozonating my own. . . it's even more effective than the Clorox solution. Ozone treatments will cure almost anything including Ebola. . .

You are correct, of course about the efficacy of ozonated water. Ozone in water makes hydrogen peroxide. I buy, by the gallon, 35% and/or 50% food grade hydrogen peroxide. We dilute this as needed for any and all disinfecting needs. We soak our toothbrushes in a 10%+ solution of H2O2. We put drops in water for internal use. We wash fresh veggies with it. We add it to the horse tank water for our horses. We sometimes use it on fresh meat to kill any resident bacteria. Great stuff, and we do not have to have an ozone generator.

We do have an Aranizer Air Purifier that creates O3 etc without creating oxides of nitrogen. We have been breathing this for the last 10 years or so.
