When Disney revives the long slumbering Star Wars franchise on December 18, The Force Awakens will take the global tentpole opening to a history-making high. How high? Many are already predicting a record $615M worldwide opening, and they have plenty of reason to be confident in that number. The first Star Wars in 1977 gave birth to the blockbuster era of filmmaking and grosses.

Well, this is a totally different production company. It is actually utilizing skilled writers and directors and not a hermit puttering about on a compound in California lost in crazy dreams.
It is being written as an action Western in space. That is what Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back where. Space Westerns.
Movie was totally destroyed by Peter Jackson a man in serious need of an editor and a studio executive to say ‘STOP! Enough already. Stop changing the story and making it ridiculous!’
There is a time and place for it. But it's not the whole movie.
Lucas ruined the originals when he altered them with his director or producer cuts, adding in cgi to70's and 80's movies.
People keep saying that. I don't agree.
Empire was a very good movie, no argument there. But it wasn't fun. Star Wars was good clean fun. And back then, you may remember, that was something very much needed.
Yes. Han shot first. My shirt says so.
JJ Abrams is the director for Star Wars 7
Mixed feelings about him.
Loved LOST.
Hated both Star Trek babies movies. Ruined the franchise
Cloverfield and Super 8 were good
Mission Impossible was fun, but ridiculous.
Yes, quality CGI along with practical effects, works wonders. The Marvel Avengers and related character spin-offs show this can work. The Hulk is the most fake-looking thing there, and they've done a pretty good job at making him look as real as possible.
Taking a bite of a fruit hovering in mid-air, while completely missing the fruit, and having the bite disappear from the fruit (Star Wars - I think Ep 2, maybe 3, can't say for certain), is just piss-poor quality control.
......and Midichlorians (sp).....
Stupid concept. Destroyed the mythos we grew up with that doing right and fighting evil, that one day you could grow up to be a Jedi. Get Lucas involved? Now its: "Sorry, Kid, your DNA sucks, go become a moisture farmer or something".
The acting never bothered me too much. They are cartoon fantasies after all. The plots of the prequels which means the writing was what was bad about them. Phantom was the worst and the next two were a little better but that is damning with faint praise. Phantom set the bar very low for anything to follow. My best guess at this point is the new one will be better than the prequels but not as good as the original set. Granted as soon the ewoks showed up in Jedi the series went downhill very fast.
I was 9...my mother took me to see Jaws at a drive in...didn’t go into the water for the rest of the
summer...lol
Let’s not forget that blockbuster...HOWARD THE DUCK.
Snark:
I agree. I was quite young when Star Wars came out, 18 years old, and was just starting my second year of active duty in the Air force. My duty was living underground on ICBM launch crew and it was a very high pressure job since it was the height of the Cold War.
Star Wars was great fun and I saw it at least three times because it was such a relief from the pressures of Missile Combat Crew and also I was a science fiction fan at the time.
I think the second and third movies are great but the original was, and still is my favorite.
In general film historians credit Jaws with showing there could be blockbusters in summer and Star Wars with proving it wasn’t a fluke. After Star Wars studios started looking for tent pole blockbusters to open in summer. So it did start the era while not being the first.
As Yoda would say “Be warned and watch, but suck it will”
Episode 3 was good in my opinion, it was a dark Star Wars movie, and showed the tragic fall of Anakin.
It will make lots of money. People will go see it because of the original cast. We will be disappointed by the new characters looks as they look like bland tv commercial characters.
Not to split hairs, but Jaws gets the credit for that.
I hope this movies does not suck like the prequels.
I couldn't agree more, but I have a feeling it will be worse than the prequels. I fear that it will focus so much on computer-generated special effects that it won't have a real story.
