His unexpected death comes only month after fellow former pro wrestler Nature Boy Buddy Landel died at the age of 53 at his home in Virginia.
The Iron Sheik, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with Piper in 2005, tweeted: Roddy Piper. I love you forever. God bless you
“One thing’s for sure...they ain’t from Cleveland!!” -—from “They Live”
Great movie. Maybe I’ll watch it tonight.
RIP Roddy!!!
He trained under Stu Hart IIRC. That will make you tough.
One of the greatest heels ever. He has the most heat of anyone in the NWA and WWF. His “ear” match with Greg Valentine was one of the greatest but he never seemed comfortable as a face.
I wonder if people who saw that flick realize it was a huge piece of leftist propaganda. John Carpenter even admitted it had an anti-Reagan, consumer mentality message.
That right back story on this creator of South Park is big fans of the movie
I don’t know what he thought of that movie or if it bothered him to be associated with it, but that “They Live” was the first thing that popped into my head when I read of his death.
RIP Roddy
Wow. He was one of the best blustering bad boys of the WWF.
RIP, Roddy. Hope you were prepared.
As always, if you'd like ON or OFF my wrasslin' ping list, let me know
"I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubble gum."
RIP Rowdy Roddy
RIP.
“They Live” is an anti Obama regime propaganda. We are occupied by an alien govt
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
61 is young!
Well Bruno is still kickin’.
IIRC he’s 85 this year.!
RIP Roddy we are gonna miss ya...
Rowdy Roddy. We’ll miss ya.
This saddens me greatly. I never watched the wrestling but I loved his movie. I’ve seen some interviews of him and he came across as pretty normal and likeable.
I remember him more from that movie — They Live — than him in the wrestling ring.
“Piper was a wrestling icon one of the biggest stars in the WWE back in the 80s, and even wrestled in Wrestlemania I back in 1985”
My super fave, I always thought he was extremely good looking. And I was at that show !
This is very sad news to me.
RIP Roddy Piper, you’ll be missed.
One of the iconic moments in WWF/WWE history: Roddy Piper smashes “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka in the head with a coconut during a segment of “Piper’s Pit.”
Damn. There’s goes another bit of my childhood and youth. R.I.P. Roddy. You still hold the record in my book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9rrgJXfLns
