A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Maybe in 1980. In 2015 your $5 would barely buy me coffee.

But, it’s the thought that counts.

everyone will disappear.

We may disappear from view, but rest assured you are never far from our thoughts through the day.

Hi. I’m back from Weight Watchers. They have a new program to confuse me.

I got really lonely, so I went next door and borrowed and egg and just made chocolate chip cookies from a mix. I don’t know how good they will be, but I’ll know in about eight minutes.

If you lived in Vegas, Moosie, you would really scratch your head at some of the drivers, here. I once saw a giant pink Easter Bunny riding a motorcycle.

The last thing like that I saw was a cop in a turkey suit driving a patrol car to his designated intersection to ticket folks who don’t stop for turkeys in crosswalks.

This IS Las Vegas Valley...

LoL,
Aren’t Giant Pink Easter Bunnys on motorcycles a common thing in NV, then? Get them all the time around these parts.
A Turkey in a Patrol Car.....that is cause for concern, right there.

Have seen two Tigers walking up the high street. Nobody batted an eyelid....
“ These things are just figments of your imagination, that aren’t really there...just mass hysteria, like UFOs and easterbunnys on motorbikes.”
“If you would just look at the red light on top of my pen......”

Hope the cookies come out nicely. :)

Truly?

yikes....there was a bob cat in the woods near me that raised quite a ruckus a few years back. Came across his tracks now and again. Wished that I’d been able to record that bone chilling howl. Car alarm

A cop in a turkey suit. That would make me worry.

I’m really sleepy. I think I’ll have some tea while I wash dishes, and then I’ll take Kathleen to the park. She had her nap early again because she was being totally impossible.

Hope the cookies turn out well!

I saw the Pink Bunny in 1982, and haven’t seen one since. However, turkeys in cop cars are very plentiful on the few days leading up to Thanksgiving, as it’s Metro’s way of bringing awareness to pedestrians in cross walks.

If cars don’t stop for a turkey in a crosswalk, chances are good they won’t stop for a civilian in one!

They manage to snag about 500 +/- drivers in the few days before Thanksgiving, every year, for not stopping for pedestrians.

The cookies are done. And my house smells good. ;o]
I even smelled them outside when I went to get the mail! Yummers!

I was sleepy so I got up and made the cookies. Now my leg is hurting and I forgot to take morphine before I made the cookies, so I’m going to chill while I wait for it to work..

Mail was disappointing. All it was was an advertisement for cremation. Last week, it was burial plots. About once a month we’ll all get ads for burial plots and/or cremation services. That’s what happens when you live in a senior community. You’re not allowed to forget your mortality for more than a week at a time.

If you’ve not seen him since ‘82 , chances are he was an out of state Easterbunny.
They are very territorial.

Do these cookies contain chocolate chips per chance? :)

Yup.
Ceirdwyn gave me that look when I tried combing her fur.
I haven’t been able to get a good image of her doing it, she gets upset over cameras pointed at her.
Weirds.
I sent TC some Dwyn pics in email, so she’ll have a hard time imagining Ceirdwyn giving the Pallas Cat look.

Yes, Moosie...the cookies do contain chocolate chips, which is why I call them “chocolate chip cookies.” I normally make them when the thread moves, but I got tired of waiting, so I went ahead and made them, anyway.

We have a lot of territory here, so the Pink Bunny could be anywhere...
