A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Here it’s $116.50 for all the travel you will do in a month.

Well, 30 days.

Well, on the subway and bus system, not at the gas station.

I have that gas finder app on my iPhone.

I’m about to go out and pay 1.73 a gallon in NJ

I just came in from sitting outside for nearly an hour. My hands are cold and my nose is burning, and I want my mommie.

Maybe I’ll finish the soup I started to eat earlier. I guess I’ll be doing a lot of soup, in the near future. I sure can’t afford any meat, and I really miss it. I would love to have a big ol’ greasy cheeseburger from Wendy’s!

The biggest treat I had this payday was an iced chocolate mocha!

Wow. Was it something I said? Where is everyone?

I was going to fry an egg, (or boil it) but I went to get an egg and it was stuck to the carton because it was cracked. I really feel the need for some protein, but I have nothing.

My pills finally made it from iherb.com, but I’m still miffed at UPS. I’m thinking they are training new drivers. It happens this time of year.

Earlier, I got an email newsletter from my closest (in age) brother, and one of his articles was about one of his grandsons who is a running back for Cal Berkeley, and may be playing in one of the Bowl games this year. I need to find out what his last name is so I can watch him play!

My clean laundry is all put away, and already the laundry basket is half full with next week’s laundry. I’m sure it won’t be any warmer next Monday morning than it was THIS Monday morning! At least next week, I don’t have to wait for them to dry.

I’ve been trying to find the “wait list” application for one of the complexes I want to move into. Housing for seniors is getting harder to find, and even harder to find are the ones I can afford to move into.

News at 11:00.

I used to have a friend in Alaska. It’s very common there for eagles to snatch pets out of the yard. In Missouri it was owls, but they couldn’t take off with a mid-sized dog.

Elmer Keith’s autobiography relates his experiences with the larger Golden Eagles carrying off young lambs and IIRC, small deer. Posted photo didn’t identify the eagle species.

Those talons are much bigger than those of the Bald Eagle that stole a trout I hooked in Canada. Losing the fish was worth the experience. Awesome strike.

I like today’s kitteh. Cloud kitteh.

I tried walking a kitty like that with a leash. Got horribly scratched. Miracle I didn’t need stitches.
