A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

I have no idea where the power outage originated from, but there are fresh road flare ashes near the local bar..

Local power company once “experimented” with three transformers on a power pole on county route 22 in Johnson NY.
It attracted lightning like a moth to flame for some reason.
One night, the cooling fins on one of them got zapped.
Power went out, power company came out and turned the power back on.
Didn’t notice the slow leak in the transformer.
Three hours later, there was a bright white flash, a loud report, and the bottom cover of the transformer imbedded itself three inches into the ground below.
And power was out again.

Tiny katz is fierce in a cuddly sort of way, for sure. But I’m so very partial to marmalades! <3

That’s quite the wind graphic, Moosie! Interesting for sure, and rather mesmerizing, as well.

Don’t get blown away!

That’s quite the dust bunny collection. Did you get them from the Lower Levels? What was it, cheaper by the dozen?

I hate using my phone as a computer, and in fact I took most of the apps off except for what was absolutely needed. It lowered my bill by $30.

Is your power back on, yet?

According to my calendar, Hanukkah begins at sundown tonight.

Down with the Macedonians!

When I was living in Texas, I heard a loud boom one morning about 0930, and the power went out.

I stepped outside and headed for the office (they had a generator) and asked them to call the power company because the transformer had blown. The manager asked me how I knew that.

Hahahaha! On my way to the office, I passed the transformer and it was not only not humming, but there was a dead crow at the foot of the pole it was on! Looked like that bird got the shock of his life...feathers everywhere!

Sundown tonight. :)

I am getting a puffer coat from LL Bean from mom and dad. My sister got me ear muffs and I believe either gloves or mittens with matching scarf.

I got my folks a gift cert to Cheesecake Factory, and sister gets 25 for Nordstrom’s. I’m really broke I gave way too much to charity this year.

I’ve spent the last couple of days working on my holiday cards. The goal is to get them to the post office by Wednesday. I also have a letter for Santa. I’m asking him for something this year,

I knew that was spelled wrong but my brain couldn’t figure out how to fix it. One of those days. Thanks.

In about half an hour I have to go for my blood draw. It’s 42 out, and I don’t know about the rest of it, as my home page is upgrading. I miss it. It had my daily Scripture verse on it, the weather, this day in history, birthdays of famous people, needs feeds...Yah.. I miss it. No telling when it will be back up with it’s upgrade.

There shouldn’t be too much traffic coming or going so it will be good. I forgot some stuff at the store yesterday, so I’ll just stop there on the way back.

You know you are old when you don’t mind getting clothes for presents instead of toys.

It sounds like you’ll be pretty warm, for sure!

I need a new coat. The heavy one I have was old when I got it, and the zipper doesn’t work, so it’s not much good in the wind. It has a hood and a storm flap, but the flap isn’t much good without a zipper.

Since I’m very susceptible to the cold, it’s hard for me to go anywhere when it’s cold, just because I don’t have a good coat. Dang.

I’m really blue today. Maybe I should rent a movie with Peter Sellers.

Or Monty Python. The dust bunnies are making me think of killer rabbits,

On the other hand, I still have Fawlty Towers and Red Dwarf in VHS and my VHS machine still works so maybe I can do that instead.
