I have no idea where the power outage originated from, but there are fresh road flare ashes near the local bar..

Local power company once “experimented” with three transformers on a power pole on county route 22 in Johnson NY.
It attracted lightning like a moth to flame for some reason.
One night, the cooling fins on one of them got zapped.
Power went out, power company came out and turned the power back on.
Didn’t notice the slow leak in the transformer.
Three hours later, there was a bright white flash, a loud report, and the bottom cover of the transformer imbedded itself three inches into the ground below.
And power was out again.

When I was living in Texas, I heard a loud boom one morning about 0930, and the power went out.

I stepped outside and headed for the office (they had a generator) and asked them to call the power company because the transformer had blown. The manager asked me how I knew that.

Hahahaha! On my way to the office, I passed the transformer and it was not only not humming, but there was a dead crow at the foot of the pole it was on! Looked like that bird got the shock of his life...feathers everywhere!
