A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Too early in the morning for such athleticism. Last night was wicked. I was awake more than I was asleep, and now I feel beat up.

My house smells like ammonia and I don’t understand that. It’s very strong.

No rain here. 86, SSE @ 4, 27%

I’m going to head for Walmart in a bit as I just used the last of the gauze pads and the packet of antibiotic cream. I don’t even know if that stuff is even valid any more, as I bought the first aid kit when I still had the Toyota, and that has been at least five years.

At least the swelling in my feet has gone down, but it took lots of sea salt and several breathing treatments to make it happen.

Today’s interesting animal fact: the closest relatives of the aardvark are elephants, manatees, dogongs, and hyraxes.

We’re way out of my league here, but I’m assuming this is not a computer controlled truck and not fuel injected. Could there be a choke issue? Chokes fine when cold but floods the engine when warm?

We had heavy (for NYC) rain for our commute this a.m.

Umbrellas are SUCH a scam.

Oddly, with so many relatives the Aardvark rarely gets invited to family gatherings.

I dunno.

Anyway, I was $.40 shy of getting everything on the list, but I still had the laundry money in my backpack, so it was good.

My new aide will be here Thursday at 0800, and I guess that’s as early as I can hope for. I dread the first visit because nothing gets done... Maybe I’ll have her wash my sheets and towels....

Yeah, I was a bit behind. I keep forgetting how old I am and how old fuel injection is.

I have a Ford that has trouble cold starting. I’ve read that there is an extra fuel injector for cold starting and I probably should have that looked at. But it WILL start so I keep letting it go.

The car has > 200K on it so I’m not thinking of spending tons, especially when I park it on NYC streets.

Well, that has to be expected when one makes a vark of himself, and let us not forget about the flamingo incident.

If I had an aardvark I’d name it Aaron.

This this has always started up right away, with just the turn of the key. The only secret is that the clutch needs to be ALL the way to the floor. So now, I’m nervous again.

On my outing to Walmart this morning, I had to really hold the throttle down before it would catch, and that’s a new thing, too. It just takes so long to get going and then I smell raw gas. *sigh*

Well, you won’t have to hope people will do charity cases for much longer. Just give Ol’ Dingy Harry a call. I think the Senate is due to take up ObamaCarCare next month. Of course, Mitch McConnel was rumored to have threatned to shut down government to stop it but he walked that back before anyone even challenged him on it.

We’ve been promised it will lower the cost of car care, help millions who can’t get car care now to get car care, reduce overcrowding at AAA towing services, and if we like our mechanic we can keep our mechanic PERIOD!!!

Sounds like a good deal.

I would say it’s definitely flooding except I didn’t think fuel-injected engines did that.

The scuttlebutt here is that the Death Panels are not only alive and well, but that there are Homeless Panels, as well, which will soon be forcing us out of “low-income housing” into “affordable housing,” which not too many of us can afford.

It’s pretty depressing...and of course, now there is the HUGH lawsuit against the local HUD office for “mismanagement of funds.” I’m waiting to see how THAT falls out...several of the residents here are involved in it. The being sued part. ;o]

Almost sounds like a bad ballast resistor.
