A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Yes, the annual idiot migration.
It is the point in the year where out of state residents begin leaving their summer homes en mass, clogging highways with knots of synchronized idiocy.
And often not a single in state plate is involved.

This on top of the local regular idiots who don’t know how to drive, stay in lane, use signals, maintain speed or safe distance without being forced to do so in some fashion.
Usually by them driving off the road or hitting something.

Perhaps they are all driving like they expect deer in the headlights.

I’m grateful to live where I do, because even though it’s close, the freeway is far enough away that I don’t even have to hear it, let alone see it.

If I want to feel like I’m still working for a living, I only have to drive a couple of blocks and the traffic will remind me to take the “short” way though town. It’s shorter, but the speed limit is 25 mph, and there are several stop signs, so it takes about twice as long. But it’s much less stressful!

I only have one route choice, unfortunately.
They dropped the bridge over the wallkill river on route 211 and in typical NY fashion, you won’t know when the project actually is complete until you get curious and drive through the area and successfully navigate through.
Because the signage indicating the bridge is down may not be correct, and signage stating the project is complete may not be correct.
Example, the realignment of route 84 exit 5 was completed but the signs stating it was an active work zone stayed for three years.
Another local example, they dropped a small bridge over a creek on Golf Links Road, and then listed the project as complete.
Problem was, they never began the process of replacing the bridge.
So when kids torched an old abandoned farmhouse, the fire department came barreling down golf links road, and almost lost their lead vehicle in the creek.
And also in typical NY fashion, nobody went to jail for it.

Oy, vey!

Calamities!! Mayhem! Idiocy!

In that case, I consider myself very lucky. One of the main roads into the airport is now closed for widening and whatever else they want to do, but it is not only replete with signage, but they advertised it on the news, weather and traffic reports for three days. The work is said to be a year long, but I’m sure they will keep us informed on the progress. It’s an inconvenience for folks from here, but there are other ways to get there.

It gets better.
Come winter we have the skier influx and all too often sticking to skis is their best option as driving in snow is not their strongest skill.

Oh boy..
We had a bunch of rabidly drooling types telling us we HAD to vote for liberal idiots like Boehner, McConnell and thad “sheep r sexy” cochran or else liberals would win.
These same people said not a peep when those same libs stated they would work with Obama.
