I would like to take my wife to the N/E United States to do some Falltime "Leak Peepin"
Come over to my back yard, between the house and garage, about dusk. Be prepared to ‘loose’ your wife, though.
Good news! “Leak Peepin’” with your wife is legal in most of the Northeast! Check the local statutes when planning your trip, just to be sure.
That does sound illegal, except maybe in Jersey
I-95, north from New Hampshire into Maine.
Unfortunately, that generally means you have to fly into, or through, Boston Logan. If you do:
(1) arrive on a Tuesday morning, drive up 95 that day.
(2) make hotel reservations in advance. Once “Foliage Season” starts, rates go up and availability goes down. My recommendation: reserve a room in Bangor, Maine.
If you carry, stay out of NY or VT. Northern PA, early October.
Why send them to Socialist Vermont, when you can come to tax free NH and see some of the most beautiful fall colors anywhere. Of course there’s a tax on lodging and restaurants, but buy a flat screen and take it home with you. Hell bring a trailer and fill it up. It’s what Massholes do.
Seriously, go to the Poconos after a good freeze. We’ve had a LOT of rain this year and the sap will run great.
I forgot to mention Mount Washington in NH. The highest mountain this side of the Mississippi.
Stay away from Maine. Lots of rabid animals, roads suck, and compared with Cow Hamster, err, New Hampshire, Maine is desolate as the moon.
Kancamagus Highway, North Conway NH!
Old Route 1 north of Boston, head North through Georgetown, Hamilton ...stay on it to the coastline of NH (eat at The Galley Hatch in Hampton) head North to Portsmouth ... Cut across to North Conway ...
Awesome trip!
Ummm, no. Mt. Mitchell in NC is taller at 6,684 ft.
You want your wife to watch men at urinals? But not Hispanic men, so you’re staying in the NE?
I just came over to see all of the FR wise crackers....
not disappointed.... :^)
Are you a plumber?
Maine is nice if you like rocky coast.
As a Mainer I leaf peep in VT.
NH—at least there are some Freepers there!
(You could probably spy a few candidates this fall, too...)
Go to Southern Vermont if you are looking for:
- antiques
- maple syrup
- canoeing
- hiking
- scenic roads
Go to coastal Maine if you are looking for:
- sea-side atmosphere
- coastlines
- lighthouses
- seafood
- crowds
Go to central New Hampshire for:
- big mountains
- scenic roads / lakes
- hiking
Go to Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island for
- liberals and political apathy
- one gigantic suburb
- urban squalor
- traffic jams
You can’t beat the Shennandoah mountains, E. To central VA, West-Virginia (the state) for beautiful mid to late fall foliage. It’s temperate weather by the time they change (mid September) so it’s not a trip in the midst of heat. Look up Shennandoah National Park. http://www.nps.gov/shen/index.htm
You will only be 75 miles from DC. Don’t let that stop you though.
