A Florida landscaper was sentenced to a year in jail on Friday after he intentionally ran over a family of ducks with a lawn mower in May, reports CBS affiliate WTSP.

Jason Falbo, 24, pleaded guilty to nine counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say he mowed down 11 ducklings and their mother May 2 at the home of a family caring for them in Wellington. Police say nine ducklings died. The mother and two ducklings survived.

"... I’m not saying he should have done what he did, but the punishment is way over the top."

He was already on probation for domestic strangulation from earlier this year.

He's a psychopath who can't even hold down a job mowing lawns without committing a felony.

Give it time, you'll be hearing about this psychopath again and it'll be for something you'll wish he'd been committed to a booby hatch for back when he ran over some ducklings.

Get a pair of swans. The geese will be gone for good.

So he got 2 years probation for strangling a human? But 1 year in jail for killing ducks?

Come now; you don’t really think she was talking about pests, do you?.

Who knows what she was talking about? I don't know what she thought, only what she said.

I despair for the country when I get questions like this on a so-called conservative web site where one would hope the intellectual level is somewhat warmer than room temperature. God knows what frothing at the mouth would occur if I posted on Salon.

<<><><><

You get all the frothing you obviously desire right here at FR. If there is a posting about an animal killing under questionable circumstances, you are right here defending or downplaying the killing.

Usually you take the private property angle, but here in this case, there’s nothing like that. It’s just a sick bastard intentionally running over the ducks. And you downplay.

Your intellectual level may (and I stress may, as the jury is still out) be above room temperature, but when it comes to ordinary, common decency, you are in the freezer section.

So he’s being punished for violating probation.

Like I said, if it was just for what he did to those ducks, then it would be over the top. The people feeding them are just as responsible.

I wondered the same thing, and came up with, “a 24 year old sociopath?”

Purposefully harming helpless animals is the hallmark of a murderer-in-training.

Yup. This is the kind of stupid, cruel thing you might expect a preteen to do. But not a grown man.

And these aren’t ordinary ducks. Muscovy ducks are cockroaches posing as water foul.

Oh, so if they are Russian ducks it’s ok?

Some among many here who haven’t read all 122 words of the original article think the latter is a bit extreme....

I’ve used Hav-A-Hart mouse traps. Mouse was in our pantry. The trap sprung right away. - When I went & got the trap a minute later; the little mouse was trembling & sweaty & its eyes were huge as saucers. - I took it, trap & all, down to the woodpile & released it. I left it a pile of natural fibers & a good supply of eats for its storage. No more mice have ventured into the house. (Ha! All the stuff I left was quickly spirited away.) - Yesterday, I saw a little butterfly caught in an old cobweb on the porch. I freed it & it thought I was crazy; but butterflies’ opinions are a dime a dozen.

Thank you both for standing up for decency!

I’d feel different if this had been an accident but deliberately mowing over ducklings is startlingly cruel and malicious.

It’s especially disturbing that an adult would do something like this and it’s disturbing yet again the callousness of some of the people posting here who find this kind of thing amusing.

Years ago, we had Muscovy ducks on our farm. One day, I had the sliding glass doors open in the living room. - One of the ducks waddled up the couple of steps & into the room. She waddled a few steps over, politely POOPED in the middle of the carpet, then politely waddled straight out the door & down the steps. - I just cleaned up the poop & wondered what the duck had against me. - She took her own sweet time; made an event out of it. It WAS funny.

Unlike other FR threads lately, I haven’t seen any obvious leftist Hussein-loving freaks here today, so I really think if they had taken 5 more seconds out of their busy day to read all 122 words of this article, they likely wouldn’t have been so amused.

We use live traps in the house for two reasons: First is that if they have disease-bearing fleas the fleas will not leave them and look for something else if the mouse dies. Second is putting them outside means they have to run a gauntlet of barn cats, foxes, coyotes, and owls. It’s not like we’re really letting them go.

The three behaviors of potentiality for future serial killers (at least back in DSM-III days) were bedwetting, firestarting, and cruelty to animals or other children.

Not me, just appalled that assault on a human rates less than killing animal.
