WESTERVILLE — The 35-year-old man who crossed a fence to pet some cougars last week said he wishes he had never done it.
“That was a very bad decision” said Josh Newell. “If I had to do it over I definitely would have stayed within the barrier boundaries. I was thinking I’m an animal lover. The cats were looking like they wanted some love and just jumped over and petted them.”
Newell was pressed with criminal trespassing charges by the Columbus Zoo after video showed him jumping a barrier to pet two adult cougars .

These Naïve Neds will always do their THANG, I reckon. My MIL was like that. She ruined a trip to the mountains for me. - We stopped at a scenic overlook to see the most perfect double rainbows I had ever seen. - Well, there was a mother bear & her cubs at the overlook. My MIL jumped out of the car, leaving the car door open; leaving me, my husband, our little boy & my FIL sitting there. (She “wanted” to get close to the bears & probably pet them.) It put my husband & his father in a really bad position of having to rescue MIL from her own naivete. Her actions just soured the whole nice experience. I think she always had to prove just how much FAITH she had over & above the rest of us. I thought not only that it was very childish, but also defying the posted laws up there. It is one thing to be CHILD-LIKE & another to be CHILD-ISH.

Too late. MIL passed away at age 88 about four years ago. Outlived FIL by about six years. I’m trying to not bother my head about her. She had some decent points, I reckon; it’s not an easy relationship for most people. So, I don’t feel alone. I’m just hoping & praying that I won’t have to be under her “authority” in the next realm. - I think she might have guessed that I was tapped out with her; but I’m glad I didn’t retaliate or forbid my husband doing stuff for her - including financial things.
