The discovery of the Americas has for centuries been credited to the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, but ancient markings carved into rocks around the US could require history to be rewritten.
Researchers have discovered ancient scripts that suggest Chinese explorers may have discovered America long before Europeans arrived there.
They have found pictograms etched into the rocks around the country that appear to belong of an ancient Chinese script.
John Ruskamp, a retired chemist and amateur epigraph researcher from Illinois, discovered the unusual markings while walking in the Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque,
He claims they indicate ancient people from Asia were present in the Americas around 1,300BC nearly 2,800 years before Columbus's ships stumbled across the New World by reaching the Caribbean in 1492.
He said: 'These ancient Chinese writings in North America cannot be fake, for the markings are very old as are the style of the scripts.
'As such the findings of this scientific study confirm that ancient Chinese people were exploring and positively interacting with the Native peoples over 2,500 years ago.
'The pattern of the finds suggests more of an expedition than settlement.'
However, his controversial views have been met with scepticism by many experts who point to the lack of archaeological evidence for any ancient Chinese presence in the New World.

Your comments Doc.
I read 1421 some time ago. Entertaining book, but as it went on, I think the author overpromised and under delivered a bit.
That along with 1491 got me interested in precolumbian history. Unearthing Ancient America is also good.
I remember back in 1990s when I was living in Fairbanks somebody discover Chinese artifact in Alaskan native villages they think that Chinese sailors were trading good with Alaskan natives
That is true story
settled Central America... </SARCASM>
Nowhere in Zhang He's explorer journals does he mention sailing the Pacific or Atlantic off the Americas. His furthest expedition made it to Mombasa, Kenya.
I think that is likely..
I said that the government, and archeologists working in tandem with the government, will start making claims that build, and puff up China's bona fides. Did you know the Chinese invented the light bulb in 1674? Did you know that the chinese were the first to use a blender?
I wish I could remember where I once read that Michigan copper was found in the pyramids.
It seems that MI copper has a very high percentage of silver unlike copper from other areas which makes it readily identifiable.
Or so said the article.
I guess the people that came here and stayed here, then were met by the so-called Europeans, weren’t able to “colonize” it.
What a load of hogwash. Civilization, albeit not European versionized form of civilization, was in America long long before Europeans ever decided to come over and this includes the vikings. Its funny and ironic most think that there were nothing but trees and indians in America before the Revolutionary War. Hey bright eyes, how do you think the indians got here? America has a long and interesting history before the country of America was founded. Until people realize, we will continue to see the statements like you made.
People came, set down roots formed civilizations and died long before a person from the region of Europe ever set foot on this continent. The preponderance of evidence clearly shows this. Now go invest your time learning about the history before the europeans came.
That book isn’t about the same thing.
Nope, Columbus didn’t thing he’d discovered new lands, he thought he’d reached India and the Far East.
will ping later, meanwhile:

Well put.
1421 isn’t 1421 BC.
It was around that date that people started to report their dogs and cats had gone missing.
