This time of year, there are always warnings about the risks and hazards involved with shooting off fireworks. Many listen to those warnings.
Some do not. Jason Pierre-Paul did not, and it cost him, dearly. Pierre-Paul, the Giants 26-year-old star defensive end, suffered a serious but apparently not career-threatening hand injury Saturday night setting off Fourth of July fireworks at his South Florida home.
While the full extent of the damage is not yet known, it is believed Pierre-Pauls suffered significant burns on his palm and several fingers, and one finger may have sustained nerve damage, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. He was admitted to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, Fla., for treatment.

Really? Proof reading is sometimes critical.
Possible factor: illiteracy.
I cringe when I read warning labels. Most are targeted for the most intellectually challenged among us. The presumption that they are able to read is not well founded.
Good question. All kinds of possibilities!
What a fool.
Some Mainiac killed himself lighting fireworks off his head:

So, Imp, is that going to be... Cutler's excuse this year?
Down here in Big D, it appears they don't hold trouble in their hands... they smoke or snort it!
Cutler’s excuse? I’m gonna go with yeast infection. :/
Those fireworks stores are mostly off the interstate highways leading to Illinoisy. It’s illegal to possess them here, but you cannot tell they are by how many are being shot off on July 1-6 and Dec 29-Jan 2........
So, dude has lost a finger. Still expects to play. Will certainly get less money.
And Former Bear (and current Buc, thank God) CJ Wilson (no, not the MLB Pitcher and no not the OAK Defensive End) has lost TWO fingers. He’s a cornerback. WAS a cornerback I guess.
Morons.
he should probably have signed before doing that
As is in the person who wrote this: "Giansts" Defensive End
That sounds creepy bro.........
Back in my firework hustling days, I loved blowing stuff up. At 11-12-13, I kinda knew enough to light stuff and >>NOT<< hold onto it.
These guys, especially Wilson, HAVE ENDED THEIR CAREERS!
M80s and cherry bombs were the fireworks of choice when I was a kid... light ‘em and chuck ‘em and run like hell.
But still, yeah, I knew kids that had fingers and thumbs blown off because they were careless. They were dangerous little “toys”. And when we couldn’t get those, we made our own. But we were boys, and we did boy stuff, and Sh*t happens...More frequently when you do stupid things...
Bottle rockets were fun too... we’d strap a dozen or so together, tie off the fuses and set them in a soda bottle to launch. Never knew where they’d go, so we’d just hit the dirt when they started going off, laughing and ducking. Of course, being that it was in the city, on a rowhome street, the neighbors took a dim view of bottle rockets impacting and exploding on their front porches...
It was fun to be a kid in the late 60s and early 70s.
And then came disco.... Brr...
