The anniversary of the signing of the document that established the seeds of Freedom for the individual is this June 15th. It happened in 1215 at Runnymede. All freedom loving people need to honor this August occasion for being the seminal point in the history of the World. Great article. (No linkie because I don't know how to...) It's entitled "Eight Centuries of Liberty"
Take five minutes and you’ll know how to post links.

Simple way is if you don’t use any other HTML codes in the entire post you
are making all you have to do copy and paste the URL you want to link to.
It’ll post just like the one I posted above.
Remember that with magnates, opposites attract and likes repel!
I understand that Brian Williams said he covered that signing.
The Magna Carta - just one more reason why Obama hates the English.
Maybe the State Dept will publish a picture of El Presidente licking an Ice Cream Cone.

Non Value added thought that this would be a good on for the Revolutionary War ping list since the magna Carta was a founding principle behind the founding of this country. So, here’s a courtesy ping.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Revolutionary War/Founding father ping list.
Great article by the great Daniel Hannan:

I am directly descended from William Malet, who was a signor of the Magna Charta :)
wow
I am a direct descendent of Charles Martel. I am proud that I am but have learned that a very large number of people can say the same thing.
I have also read that a huge number of Hungarians are descended from Attila.
Excellent historical piece written by the great Daniel Hannan.
Have emailed this to friends. Thanks for the ping.
That’s right — twelve days were dropped out to get the calendar in line with actual year. Be glad you’re not trying to figure out the Swedish calendar, that one changed, changed back, changed again, etc. What a mess.

Thanks matginzac.
I’m sure hundreds of thousands of people descend from any one person that far back in history. Odds are, everybody has someone notable somewhere in their tree. Also, I didn’t do the genealogy, only the more recent 200 hundred years. After getting so far back though, you can often connect to lineage that has already been done by others.
Whoops, eleven days.
I got very lucky. We are kin to the Byrd family of Virginia. I noticed an article about Governor and Senator Byrd of Virginia. I knew we were descended from their same GGGrandfather.
It turned out there was a story in the Saturday Evening Post listing the lineage of the Byrd family in Virginia and it went all the way back to Charlemagne, listing every person in the line and there were a lot of famous ones. I didn’t have to do a bit of research.
I knew that Charlemagne was the Son or was it Grandson? of Charles Martel.
I am descended from King John.
Thanks to the good men who forced the loser King John to sign it
