In the wake of a tabloid report alleging that he molested several underage girls while he was a teenager, reality-television star Josh Duggar said Thursday that he acted inexcusably and was deeply sorry for what he called my wrongdoing.
The 27-year-old Duggar, a high-profile member of the evangelical Christian family that stars on TLCs 19 Kids and Counting, also resigned his post with the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying organization.
Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret, Duggar said in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation.
We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.

Expunging records in Arkansas: http://research.lawyers.com/arkansas/arkansas-expungement-and-record-sealing.html
The people whose main job in life was to protect her and keep her safe repeatedly betrayed her and then hypocritically drilled into her how important it was for her to maintain purity.
That's psychological warfare.
“Would you want a 14 year old who did things like that in your house, around your children?”
Okay, so apples to apples TODAY I would much rather have Josh Duggar around my 14 year old than Bill Clinton.
A decade ago, I would NOT want Josh Duggar around my 14 year old, and I still wouldn’t want Bill Clinton around my 14 year old...Answer your question.
Precisely. In AR you cannot fully expunge any records, but some records are eligible to be sealed - but you have to petition to seal them. The presumption is that they are public unless a petition to seal them has been granted. There is no automatic seal.
Doesn't change the fact that of the two horrible human beings we're discussing, Duggar is the worse.
Reading all the exceptions in the law says that Duggar didn’t fit any of them. The family of one of the victims, however, did have a legitimate interest in having the identity of their child protected.
Bill Clinton went repeatedly to an island that was owned by one of Britain’s most notorious child sex slavers. You can draw your own conclusions from that.
I believe that's more accurate. No community is immune or worse than any other when it comes to all manner of bad behavior by teenagers. Doesn't matter if religious or secular, conservative or liberal, race, nationality, etc.
About the only distinction you could make is that boys are more prone to offend than girls, but by how much debateable.
It's a huge family with a bad-actor caught 10 years ago and known of by their church elders and the state police. And folks are all flabergasted that a family doesn't want to air their dirty laundry in public and on national TV, as if the fondling wasn't bad enough. How weird, right? As if "Normal" families would want to delve into the depths of humiliation for our enjoyment and satisfaction.
I would wager a surprising percentage of families, somewhere in their extended family, also have some abhorrently dirty laundry and/or black-sheep relative they would rather not discuss.
Heck I don't even watch the show so maybe I'm not emotionally invested one way or the other. I just truly dislike how we (as a society) seem to derive entertainment, pleasure and satisfaction from the misfortune and scandals of others.
You are absolutely right about that.
The worrisome part is that the molestation had to be at a higher level for him not to have qualified for an expunging. I’m thinking ‘gross sexual imposition’ at a minimum.
“He should never have been placed in a public position, and, since his parents were well aware of this, his parents never should have allowed the FRC to bring him aboard.
Absolutely terrible judgment on their part.”
Given what we’ve learned in the past 24 hours, that’s not the only example of terrible judgment. The Duggars learned about Josh’s molestation in 2004 or 2005. They had their first TV special in 2004, and after several more, the TV series started in 2008. Based on the timing, it looks an awful lot like they hushed up the molestation in order to protect their ability to monetize the Duggar brand. Sickening.
That happened over a decade ago though. I don't know this guy from Adam, maybe he completely regrets all of it and maybe it was one of those stupid adolescent judgement issues he wishes he could take back... we all have those, plenty of them. Maybe he's already made it right with God. Then again, maybe he's still a closet pervert. We don't know. Some people never change, and some people do. I might not leave him alone with my wife or kids, but I'm deferring this one to the almighty for ultimate judgement.
If only Josh Duggar could have gotten married -—oh wait! wrong religion.
It seems that Jim Bob and Michelle, did not merely "try" to deal with the situation... they actually dealt with it.
I think it had less to do with money than it did with the fundamental baptist views on how to deal with sin. We attend an independent fundamental baptist church and all psychology is seen as an unbiblical approach. Thus, the parents would try to handle it in house through prayer, discipline, memorizing applicable scripture and help from fellow believers.
It was misguided, but they probably truly thought his heart and mind could be restored better without outside unbiblical help. Also, it is very hard to see your own child objectively, especially with this horrible of a thing. They went far from how they were raised (Michelle was a cheerleader!) precisely to protect their children’s hearts and minds. This would have blown them away as their method should have prevented anything like this-total shock that may have blinded them to what should have been done.
There are no sealed court records. This matter never reached a court.
You’d think. They were on TLC this morning in reruns, so they weren’t immediately pulled. I bet the people at the FRC are fit to be tied. Their brand and moral authority is pretty much crap at this point too.
No they didn't.
They sent him away for a few months to do home remodeling with a family friend and called it "counseling," they say that they went to the police, but they went to a another family friend, an LEO who was also a criminal involved in a similar kind of offense.
It was not until the scandal spread that the local police got involved, and that was after the statute of limitations had run out.
They dealt with it by allowing the abuser to live in the same house with the abused, by not getting outside counseling or help for either the victims or the abuser, by conveniently allowing the statute of limitations to expire, thereby making sure no one would receive correction or assistance.
Disgusting.
Didn’t that Lena Dunham skank admit in her autobiography to molesting her baby sister? Why is she not only getting a pass but still winning awards?
Bill Clinton was not 14 at the time.
