In the wake of a tabloid report alleging that he molested several underage girls while he was a teenager, reality-television star Josh Duggar said Thursday that he acted inexcusably and was deeply sorry for what he called my wrongdoing.
The 27-year-old Duggar, a high-profile member of the evangelical Christian family that stars on TLCs 19 Kids and Counting, also resigned his post with the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying organization.
Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret, Duggar said in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation.
We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.

He should never have been placed in a public position, and, since his parents were well aware of this, his parents never should have allowed the FRC to bring him aboard.
Absolutely terrible judgment on their part.
It seems they didn’t realize that sealed minor court records only stay sealed for liberals.
It depends on his age relative to the victims. Peek a boo, if that’s all he did, wouldn’t probably hurt them.
The sexual misconduct activities of the conservative religious community are real enough, what’s heartening is that the parents and their child actually tried to deal with the issue.
I don’t think the the issue of sexual misconduct is easy to deal with, though.
I have identified with this subculture in my lifetime so I don’t post this in ignorance or hatred.
I could play the role of gossip but I choose not to.
I simply ask conservative religious people to consider their own sexual misconduct or wrongdoing and consider what actions they need to take to deal with them.
It should be a priority for the conservative religious community right now, even taking priority over criticizing the sexual activities of others.
Bill Clinton commented when asked, “haha, well, 17 years ago after being elected president of the whole united states of America, I did more than fondle a young woman, haha, in the “oral” office, get it, I said oooorrrraaallll office, haha get it...what’s the big deal. I mean...before that I used have state police officers harass chicks for me all the time. But, I’m sssssooooorrrrrryyyyy, and I have apologized and I have moved on, that was a long time ago.
While what has happened in regard to sealed records suggests an illegal act by some official, that is an entirely separate issue than giving a public platform to a person who has an issue and whose issue will seriously injure your ministry and potentially injure the lives of others.
As pastor of a church, I would never give a public platform to one with a molestation issue. They can work in a food pantry, work with maintenance, work in any number of places. They cannot work with children, and they cannot be given a public platform, for that would give the impression they are to be sought out.
So, 2 issues. The one is the ongoing war of liberaldom against conservatism. The other is the selection of leaders for public ministry.
End of the Duggar show.
The facts show that he was 15 or older when the last recorded attack occurred, that the oldest his youngest victim could have been was 9, and that he snuck into the victims' room at night, violating them when he thought they were asleep.
He is one sick individual.
The Duggars committed crimes, not the press.
> It seems they didnt realize that sealed minor court records only stay sealed for liberals.
And for liberal perpetrators, even if the records were unsealed, the liberal perps AND THEIR SUPPORTERS AND THE NEWS MEDIA would excuse themselves or even laud themselves, achieve an uptick in popular approval, turn the issue into one of conservative/Christian “hate” or purtianism, and be voted back in to whatever office they desired.
Witness Gerry Studds, Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, Barney Frank, Woody Allen, Morgan Freeman, Jim McGreevy, the Episcopal Church, etc.
It's unbelievable how many posters here were never taught by their parents that two wrongs do not make a right.
These little girls were victimized by their brother, their parents, and their church elders.
The entire focus of their community seems to have been to try to find ways not to compromise the molester's future or the family's image.
Conservatives need moral absolutes, not Duggars.
If the boy was 14 at the time, that would have been a sealed record immune from FOIA.
The Arkansas FOIA makes no such blanket exemption.
“preyed”
So a child, displaying curiosity for something he knew nothing about “preyed” on his sisters. Preyed?!?
And what Clinton did was PR or worthy of praise?
And genius, before you go off all halfcocked, I was not saying two wrongs make a right, simply a child who was discovered doing something wrong was discovered, addressed, and all involved received counseling, a decade ago...a decade ago when he was 14, 14 genius. Should he be burned at the stake...never let him up for air for something he did at 14, 14.
The lefties fought to try and keep the first Virginia Tech shooters high school counseling records sealed when he was, wait for it, wait for it, 14 years old...Sooooo fight to keep a violent shooters records sealed because he was a liberal, but release the records of 14 year old because he is a conservative — Do you see the double standard in your pathetic twisted argument. So, either all 14 year olds get to have their records sealed or none of them do, period.
Let me guess, you were a precious little window licking snowflake at 14, right. You never did anything wrong...But if you did, should we continue to beat you up for something you did at 14?
And you also made my point, thank you very much, Bill Clinton did prey on young women and the left holds him up as some kind of great guy...give me a break.
No public records in AR are presumed to be off limits.
I’m not pushing any sort of moral relativism. I’m just stating that the degree of damage that the child suffered.
It was merely keeping thing in perspective, not justifying it.
Joshua Duggar's repeated assaults on young girls in the dead of night, even after he was caught, disciplined, and ordered to stop is not "curiosity."
When I was 14, my curiosity focused on girls who were my own age, not blood relatives, and who were not asleep, and free to leave my presence.
What the predator Joshua Duggar did was - to a normal observer - pathological and frightening.
Would you want a 14 year old who did things like that in your house, around your children?
Surprising to me. The records of minors tend to be sealed, and especially young minors. Their names aren’t even revealed. Sounds like Arkansas law is complicated. One article I read yesterday on this said something about expunging the record for one of the victims, and that’s how this became public, so expunging records does exist. It appears that at that time someone noticed the identity of the perp (Duggar), and it somehow was released. That is what makes me think there’s a double standard going on here.
However, I want to reemphasize my major point. It was very poor judgment on the parents part to provide a public platform for their son, and not a friendly act for them to let Family Research Council elevate him without knowing his background. Perkins never would have done that.
