I am organizing the first annual "Prepper Fest & Survival Expo" in Grand Junction (Western Colorado), July 25th and am in need of some assistance.
Specifically, I am seeking presenters who can present on a variety of Prepping, Homesteading, Sustainable Living, and general Survival topics. The presentations will be done in a classroom setting @ the venue, complete with A/V setup and PC/Projector. We will have the equipment necessary to do remote presentations, so this is not necessarily limited to those available to be @ the show. Each presentation should last approximately 45 minutes, and include an additional 15 minute segment for Q&A.
In return for presentation, I'm happy to provide as much exposure for the presenter's business, organization, cause, etc., including free table space. I would also LOVE to provide free space in the event that we can secure someone in the area to man a table representing Free Republic!
I would love to hear from FReepers across the Country who may have experience organizing or participating in these types of shows, and any advice you might offer. We are already seeing quite a response from our initial efforts, which have mostly been efforts on Facebook. At present, we do have vendors confirmed from Moab to Denver, and are expecting attendees from all over Colorado. It really is shaping up to be a great event, and I hope you can help make it better!
About 8 months ago , I went to my local Town Offices that were housed in an 1860's remodeled grain mill, with stone walls 6- 8 feet thick, and sturdily constructed.
There used to be a "Fall Out Shelter" sign in the interior of the building directing townspeople into the basement,
and while painted over several times, the old radiation sign silhouette outline remained.
It seems that the reserved space for the Fall Out Shelter has been converted into a file and records room by the Town, but there is no longer any radiation shelter there.
When asked where the nearest shelter was located , they all had this dumbfounded look on their face, and had no idea.
It seems that complacency has replaced 'prepardness' despite the newly raised international nuclear threat.
Yes, and to me, the threat is even more likely today, because these people are not rational, and there is no deterrent from assured destruction that they fear or would care to avoid.
Our Government has made sure that they will have shelter, but have not done anything to help the civilian population - so it’s up to the individual to do what they can.
Remember when the Presidential Campaigns were talking about how to spend the “peace” dividend due to the economic implosion of the Soviet Union? A CNN news director was a panelist at a seminar bemoaning the fact that there really was no real news without the Russian Threat.
I thought that was a stupid position, because to me nuclear arsenals disappearing and being spirited away was pretty stinkin’ dangerous.
While it is not on the top of my most likely list(tornado is still number 1), I do feel that such an event is likely to occur somewhere in the USA during my lifetime.
Yeah , I remember , but that was when sane heads were in charge of "Mutually Self-Assured Destruction" as a deterent.
Now we have Empire-builders, Narcissists, and Sheet-heads who yell "Death to America" who come over unprotected border to create suversive sabotage from within.
There are even online training manuals.
The enemy is within our non-existant walls, and the wolves are in charge of the hen-house ; and complacency exists among the uninformed , ill-educated, and feral 'utes'.
It is going to be a long, hot summer for the ill-prepared, and even those who think they are prepared .
Very Reminiscent of the 60s, but potential for worse outcome!
