The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Oooooo...
I like the way your mind works.
It certainly was rather depressing, but it was over and done so quick. By the time the hail melted, I was already scheming on how I would make my comeback. I’m far from done gardening this season!
We went from four feet of snow to summer (upper 80’s) so fast here in soviet Red Hampshire it made most gardeners dizzy. What happened to Spring?
Only thing better than next year’s holdover is a multiyear holdover. Mr. Basil plant has been producing more than I use every year since 2010. LOl
Cute little pizzas Looks just right to me. Roll it out and make the pizzas, cut them in half after baking, That’ll be 8 servings of about 2.5 each. I like to reheat pizza in an iron skillet. Turn it on low and cover with a lid. Nice crisp crust. Or use the Micro Wave for softer crust.
You are most welcome, greeneyes!
New England Spinach was one of my most successful indoor plants one winter. Grew like the dickens. Might have to try it again this winter.
Hubby put in a big drainage ditch right above his newest patch, because he was having problems with run off and erosion. He just dug down and put in some perforated pipe and added a bunch of gravel. So the pipe carries the excess away, and the rest seeps through the gravel and into the garden at a slower pace.
Me either. Back in the day you could get one for a dollar or so, and I’d maybe get one. No way am I gonna spend that kind of money.
It does make me think about taking all my extra seeds and putting them into 8oz styro cups and selling them in April for a couple of bucks at the Farmer’s Markets. LOL
Spring - Isn’t that an old fairy tale from a long time ago in a far away place? LOL
Gardeners have an extra dose of determination and optimism. I am reminded of a story about two little boys who were each presented with a pile of manure.
Now one little boy was terribly disappointed - he had all sorts of dire predictions as he was the pessimist.
The optimistic little boy was busy digging up a storm in all that manure. Whistling and smiling. When he was asked about it, he said, “with all this manure, there’s bound to be a pony in here somewhere!”
Now a gardener would be happy just to have the manure to dig and spread on his garden, knowing that even if he didn’t find a pony, he’d get a wonderful crop after planting seeds. LOL
My favorite homemade pizza combo - homemade crust, creamy pesto, chopped leftover grilled chicken, onion, banana pepper and mozzarella or other white cheese mix. Sometimes just a little chopped spinach or chard thrown in. I love banana peppers so much sometimes I just take long hits off them when I pick them. :0
It must have gone by when I was in the shower or otherwise distracted...
Tee Hee. Yes they are. I think the Roundup would make the council’s heads explode. LOL
So this is supper tonight. It's good enough. I didn't want to use a bunch of time for an experiment and then find out I can't eat it.
It is good, I must admit. For a plain pizza. I forgot jalapeños. I won't tomorrow. ;)

Looks good, about 8-900?

I meant calories.
I’ve already got mature Jolero Yellow Jalapenos, but it is from a plant that I started this winter and bloomed indoors, hand pollenated. Have had it outdoors but still in the big pot for about a month.
I have little of my garden planted, but a lot in pots getting ready. We’ve been having heavy rain, and i did not get my garden plot bedded up, it’s been tilled. Soon as I can get it bedded, I will put most of it out from those pots.
We’ve really had the rain lately, thank God. *SMILE*
“I’m doing home-made pizza tonight.”
Bob is gone shopping and going to pick up the kind of pizza a place makes fresh, then you take it home and bake it. He says he has the right kind of whatever you have to have to bake one right. I’ll let you know if it is acceptable once it is baked.
The hail “destroyed all but one hop plant, tore through the leaves on my squash and tobacco and beat down many of my tomato plants.”
I am so sorry that happened. I’m sure you were a basket case as you knew they were being murdered. I would have a fit seeing all that effort and the plants being killed.
We have had storms one after another with threat of hail and high winds and had one last night with small hail. We will have more of that in the days ahead.
Wicked, wicked ...hahaha
