Drudge Report just put up the headline “ISIS slaughters 300 Christian Captives”

The BBC is reporting these people, some of them, were of a “mixed religion” of oral tradition and using the Koran and Bible. So I don’t know what that is about.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-32565809

We will have to see what the details of this story turn out to be.

You can research the Yazidis. They’re an odd combination of religious traditions, with Zorozastrianism probably the most important component.

One name of their preeminent demigod is Shaytan, which obviously doesn’t go over well with Muslim or Christian neighbors.

They are linguistically (some words they use such as Yazad or eezad) and a tiny bit ‘culturally’ close to old persian beliefs, which includes zoroastrianism.

However, their religious practices & theologically they are definitely closer to islam. And more a mixture of abrahamic religions plus pagan elements than zoroastrianism.

And yet the world sits back and allows this. What do Christians have to do to be left in peace? Form and fund their own army and declare warfare on Muslims? I would prefer for Muslims to weed out their own mad dogs, yet none of them will do it in spite of their claims to be a peaceful religion. Either they refuse to act out of fear or acceptance of what radicals do, and either is unacceptable.

The Christians will have to kill or be killed. This is not late Roman times. This is a time of extermination of what is perceived as a powerful and poisonous force. Islamics are playing for keeps.

If you read the original article, it says ISIS kidnapped 40,000. No words to say if they have that many. Geez.

Actually, some say they do these things to incense someone into attacking them, like waving a red flag at bull.

Well, let’s do it then. Sheesh.

What, specifically would you have the US do? How many troops, airmen, and marines would you commit? How much munitions? How would you define victory?

And the all time favorite: How will you pay for it.

And finally, what are the likely repercussions and political outcomes in Iraq and Syria, and how will it change the tilt of power within the entire region?

Its easy to say, “kill them all.” Except, we dont know who they are or where they are.

And, aside from the barbaric aspect to it...there is no compelling National Interest. And do not use the BS of them coming here. They are not here, and they are not coming here. When they do something here, we can talk.

BTW, to be clear on my previous post here, the word you mention ie Shaytan is Arabic (islamic) from which the related word we use in english is satan.

In old & middle persian the concept of (negative/dark force/evil) & related word ‘satan’ is known as Ahriman or Angra Maynu (literally meaning ‘angry sphere/half or spirit’). Both ahriman & shaytan words are still very much in use in modern persian. But shaytan much more & commonly used by muslims.

Moreover, there is no concept of shaytan or ‘the peacock’ redeeming himself/itself hence worthy of worship, in zoroastrianism. I can only surmise it’s a pagan influence of sorts for Yazidis.

Zoroastrianism evolved over time and various groups split off partially, such as the Mithraists, Zurvanites and even Manichaens.

I think it’s entirely reasonable to place the Yazidis solidly in this group of Zoroastrian-offshoot religions. Heavily influenced of course by Islam and other, possibly even pre-Zoroastrian religious influences. There are obvious parallels to the religion taught by Mani.

My mother and her family are zoroastrians by birth through generations. Still close to zoroastrian community & traditions. I was writing previous comments from personal experience as well.

Mithraism is the only ‘religion’ that came before zoroastrianism. Zurvan & manicheanism both came after. There is no concept of ‘peacock worship’ in Z faith; nor in mithraism. Most Yazidi beliefs (theologically) are quite foreign to zoroastrians.

This link is from 2011 mostly about zoroastrianism.

Actually, whilst the peacock is a fairly popular animal in persian history and we often see it in persian paintings particularly post-islam, it originated from india & is an indian influence. Including ‘the Peacock Throne’ which was brought to iran over from india during a muslim dynasty (Nader Shah) in iran. Though am not suggesting it is a hindu religious tradition.
