Hi everybody. Im speaking with you from the DC Public Library in Anacostia, where I just met with a group of promising middle school students.
We spent some time talking about their lives, and how we all care about their success and how that starts with a good education. So one thing I announced here in Anacostia is a new project by libraries and major publishers to provide more than $250 million in free e-Books for low-income students.

No one goes to libraries—they have become de-facto homeless centers—Kids are not safe in them today—besides—no one reads. The Library card is a relic of the 20th Century. Maybe they shouldn’t be free? If you had to pay a buck to enter things might change.

to provide more than $250 million in free e-Books
Twisted Liberal logic.
$250 million for ebooks is not free ebooks. Someone, somewhere, is eating the cost -- $250 million.
If publishers are 'eating the cost', then they will raise prices on regular purchases to make up for the 'free' ebooks.
Ahhh, but Liberals/Progressives/Politicians don't care. As long as they get the credit for playing Santa with other peoples' money, they proclaim victory.

I wished the governments would QUIT tearing down the old libraries now that we don't really use them, and replace them with huge, grand, expensive buildings.
Just as I thought the libraries seemed to be dying out here in San Diego they are all being replaced with much grander buildings, dream buildings.
This non San Diego photo shows how books aren't the focus anymore.

If publishers are 'eating the cost', then they will raise prices on regular purchases to make up for the 'free' ebooks. The marginal cost of an ebook is near zero. Plus, the publishers get the free publicity for participating in this program. Seems like a win-win for them.

They may be propaganda, but unless they are audio books or picture books, they won’t have much effect on the target demographic. They aren’t avid readers, library card or no library card.

For people who havent been in a public library for years, the books have largely been sold off for 50 cents apiece, today they are primarily for using computers and checking out DVDs, and more community stuff
I'm one of those who hasn't been in a public library for ages, but your post explained a couple of things for me. Once in a while I drive by a library in a little town. It seems they are always advertising a "book sale" with thousands of books for sale. I wondered what kind of budget they had to turn over that many books so quickly. Turns out they are just moving out of the book business!
It also explains the explosion of "ex-library" copies in the stock of online sellers in recent years (which means they are usually shabby copies). The internet has been a boon to book lovers like me; the world is your bookstore.

library cards are free and easy to get, and many schools have sign-ups for library cards, too
he must be up to something, though. he always is.
perhaps he wants to take over all American libraries to make sure they only stock ‘contstructive’ books .. like, say,
Koran, Quaran, Mein Kampf, Communist Manifesto, LIttle Red Book, Malcolm X, and Rules for Radicals.

$250 million to download free books?
Who is being paid off - the publisher or the authors (favored by the president)?
I download things all the time...and it’s free.
If the liberals authors and publishing houses cared for the poor, they would allow free downloads. But they WON’T because liberals are the greediest people on the planet. Just look at the Clintons.

Goes without saying. We have that already — look at the soft PC departments of our universities, indeed, of the whole educational system.

Maybe Simon & Shuster will get their payoff for the 14 million dollar campaign donation they laundered through Hillary’s book deal.

Why do they NEED an Ebook, they cost a lot of money that libraries don’t have. A library can issue a card for pennies and whats wrong with turning PAGES?
OH; My Bad, you actually have to get up off your lazy ass and GO to the library to get a book, instead of just down loading off line.

[[Every student should have a library card ]]
Expect an executive order demanding that everyone have one or else- and His plan no doubt is to take all books that aren’t homosexual in nature out of libraries, and fill the libraries with gay and muslim books, and make attendance mandatory

I’m sure the Lake Area Tech model will work in the projects since their student body appears to all be Norwegian stock.
