The Kings rented out their Calgary, Alberta, home in Canada using the popular renting service Airbnb. They thought it would be an easy way to help offset the cost of their travel with their two kids, CTV reported.
They were wrong.
The Airbnb renters told the King family that only four people would be staying at the home while they attended a wedding. So on Saturday, they handed over the keys and were off on their trip. But it wasnt long before they their neighbors called and sent them text messages, explaining that they were concerned about what was going on.
Later, a party bus showed up and an unknown number of people poured into the home. Police received at least three noise complaints in as many days and on Monday they were called to the house to respond to a fight taking place in the front yard.
The family returned home, while some of the apparent partiers were still there , to find their house completely trashed.

I don’t have a problem with concepts like Uber and Airbnb, but people really should use some common sense.

This happened in our town last week, too. 200-250 teens showed up at an AirBNB rental for a party. It naturally got out of control just like this article. Happened three weekends in a row, too. The city council is finally looking into restrictions on turning your property into a commercial hotel.
I like the photos with the article.
Mom: “Where’s your blue bra, Mindy? I didn’t see it in the dirty clothes.
Mindy: “Uhhhhh....”

Did they?
Well, lucky for them. I bet they never rent out their home again.

The photo you posted - I remember it. See the guy, center-right with the white shirt? Maryland's (democrat) attorney general at the time.
These guys are such players.

I agree. Whether or not it’s an issue in this case, ABB likely avoids any culpability due to their ‘one-click’ hold-harmless.
It’s an issue not properly addressed in the courts, imho.
Yet...

Returns to Something Almost UnimaginableGee, I could EASILY imagine it, which it is why I would never do such a thing.
Just because you contact a stranger on teh internets instead of in an alley does not turn that stranger into a trustworthy individual.

I think the bigger risk with this sort of thing is that someone’s going to get inside your place, and then refuse to leave, working the tenant protection laws for as long as possible to stay in your place. You wouldn’t think that was possible, based on common sense, but of course a lot of the laws written to protect tenants (and to be sure there are a lot of dirtbag landlords out there, too), like most products of the government and lawyers, are largely devoid of common sense.

Based on these statements:
"Brought to you by the libertarians who came up with the sharing economy!"
"Everything is right until something goes wrong, silly libertarian kumbaya."
"Straightup. Is or isnt the sharing economy a libertarian thing?"
I believe you are confusing "Libertarians" with "Hippies"
To wit: "Brought to you by the libertarians who came up with the sharing economy!"
Libertarians advocate for an UNREGULATED economy.
Hippies want to "share the land, man"
"Everything is right until something goes wrong, silly libertarian kumbaya."
Libertarians advocate for an PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, so if you do something stupid, the consequences rest on you.
Hippies want to "share the land, man"
"Straightup. Is or isnt the sharing economy a libertarian thing?"
Libertarians advocate for an UNREGULATED economy.
Hippies want to "share the land, man"
