The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I love the idea! No cost, works great, and I can drop them right in the ground and the roots will grow right through the paper! Best gardening hack I've come across so far.
Replaces collars for cut worms too :-)
The volunteer cilantro. I don't know if I can use it fast enough. I can't wait to make some more salsa.
Fortunately, I'm not on O2 and right now have good lung function. If it wasn't for the dizzy part, I'd never know I was sick. I'm too dumb to hurt as daddy used to say. ;)

The pots are about 3.5” across, homemade from recycled newspaper. If I can get some good cuttings, I’m more than happy to send you some!

I fully intend on carrying on your kindness, and will offer tobacco seeds (once mine have matured) to anyone interested, along with the hops cuttings. I sure do appreciate you sending me those, and they are well on their way. I’ve been calling them Nicotiana FreeRepublica :)
We have been making 3” pots using newspaper, but those in the picture look much larger.
Here is some of the work I did on the flower bed today while power was out. Yes, the siding looks horrible. It's part of my secret of staying single so long this time. Works for me. ;)
I got quite a pile of leaves out of the side flower bed and under the AC unit (which I put in myself yesterday).
I dearly love the weather we're having now. It's perfect for working outside.

No we just had hail, high winds and a deluge. We are on the eastern side of the state, and the worst of it went north of us.
I asked about Springfield, because we have some property there that we used to rent out, but after some minor repairs we are going to try to sell it this summer, maybe.

No, they are about that; 3-3.5". Just close ups. I find the tabloid size pots usually come out between 2.5-3", the bigger newspaper sheets come out 3"-4" (I've never actually measured, just eyeballing it)
LOL. Your Daddy sounds like quite a character. My Dad was on O2 when we had a week long electrical outage in August.
We ran a window air conditioner, TV, and his O2 concentrator, on the generator, and he was comfy as could be.
We also ran 2 Refrigerators and a freezer. I have no doubt that it was a life saver for him that we had the generator. I also called his supplier, first thing in the AM to get a couple of spare portable tanks.
It was a real problem for many people in the county, and our local health centers and ER were overloaded with people needing some sort of oxygen. So it is an important item to have a plan for, because by the end of the day supplies were getting scarce, and the hospital and ER were overflowing with people needing oxygen.
I had order a little wooden pot maker one year, but when it came in, Hubby was enthralled, so he took it and made a lot of pots. He cut so many strips, that he has a bunch left, and I am still using pots this year that he made last year.
So I wound up with pots galore and no effort or additional expense. Good investment for me! LOL
I have a question about potatoes that someone here might be able to answer. This is about a store-bought potato, from wally world. Bag says 5lb US No. 1 potatoes, and below that it clearly says Simply Perfect Red potatoes. Back of bag says Distributed by Potandon Produce L.L.C. Pasco, WA 99301 produce of USA. I don’t believe that they are the same kind of Red potatoes that I have eaten all my adult life, as they are oval/oblong, not basically roundish, the color is not the same dark red that I’m used to, more of a greyish red, the flesh is even yellow not white, and they really don’t even taste like Red potatoes, although they are good, but more like a russet. Just wondering what kind of franken potato this is, and if anyone else has noticed this? Thanks.
I even have salad greens coming up in unusual and unexpected places.

I have a little cluster of 7, early, low growing, red tulips blooming in my otherwise barren front flower bed. The tips of daffodils are beginning to emerge.
