Would you drink beer made from sewage water?
The Telegraph (UK) ^ | March 13, 2015 | Saffron Alexander

We're getting more creative with what we do with our waste. The end of 2014 gave us the "poo bus" - a bus run on sewage and food waste - and Bill Gates is currently drinking feces made by a machine that turns human waste into drinking water and electricity.

All water doesn’t get wasted. We’re drinking urine from the dinosaurs still.

I boycott Samuel Adams for their homosexual activism, but pure water, is pure water.

I’m pretty sure that Bill Gates is drinking purified water, not “feces” as the article claims.

... no new water has been made since creation...

Not true at all. Combining hydrogen and oxygen didn't exactly stop at creation.

FWIW, other than H2O created through chemical reactions, this is the same water that has been on the earth for at least 6,000 years. That water you are drinking, or cooking with, or washing with, has most likely passed through at least dozens of animals’ digestive, urinary or gastrointestinal tracts.

Thank God we have water purification and waste water treatment systems in most cities to remove MOST toxic products. Unfortunately, not everything is removed. I’ve heard reports of ecological problems in the Great Lakes caused by hormones from women who use BC pills. Such chemicals can also move up the food chain, to the top.

As the article will not load onto my tablet, I must assume that the water will be treated and purified. If so, yes, I would drink such a beer. Without treatment? Not so much, though in my youth, I was known to drink the odd Molson Brador, something likely resembling beer made from waste water.

Exactly. One of the interesting things about water is that the most incredibly contaminated water can be entirely purified simply by evaporation and condensation.

I'm not a fan of Bud either. The exception being O'Douls, preferably the dark.

The chem prof way back said it was quite easy to make vodka out of crude oil, turning ethane into ethanol, but marketing it would be the problem.

More recently, one of Anthony Bourdain's trips to Russia or the Ukraine had some chef pitching vodka made out of chicken feces as a business venture. Methane to ethanol not much a problem, either.

Tertiary water treatment where you can drink processed water from sewage out of the tap has been around since the early 1970s. It even caused a problem in a Long Island cove from dumping too pure water into the cove, killing off sea life from the lack of nutrients.

So, could you point me to where this is happening? Other than a half ounce during a lightning storm? And, would you be so kind as to tell us the volume of water that has been formed here on earth since that time?

I do not drink Coors either, but at least Coors is or at least was, actually brewed up in the mountains like they advertised.

Unlike the A-B factories that seem to always be in scummy industrial areas.

At some point every drop of water we have ever consumed passed through some creature’s kidneys. Drink up.
