Other animals carefully walk around them. Skunks have evolved to expect this, which is why they get hit by cars so often.
Turns out cars aren’t as impressed by a skunk’s threat posture as a bear is.

Dead Skunk was in hot rotation on the KDKA Radio morning show when I was a kid. Mom had it on in the kitchen and heard that almost every day.
