‘Guy Took My Spot ... So I Put the Snow Back’
Boston ^ | 02/16/2015 | Hilary Sargent

Warning to anyone tempted to snag a spot marked by a space saver.

Last week, a Craigslist post told the story of one Boston resident, who felt his rights were violated when someone removed his space saver and took ‘his spot.’

“So I put all the snow back,” the now deleted post read.

I remember days like this very well, having lived in a city in NJ.

Mostly, any obvious space saver was respected, so there were few incidents like this.

Violators were subject to cut tires, keyed paint or dented door panels. Funny how nobody saw nothin’.

Few things enrage a person more than losing a space that took three or four hours to shovel out.

It is a theft of time and effort without compensation.

That’s how it was looked at.

No doubt. Its Boston, after all.

A world totally different and opposite the normal place I call home.

God Bless Texas.

I had filed for divorce but both still living under the same roof. Big Big snow. Double car garage and long double driveway. He went out and shoveled “his side” and dumped the snow on “my side” so I had twice as much snow to shovel. Thankfully, kids in the neighborhood helped me out; otherwise, I would have had to wait until it thawed, lol.

So you think he should shovel the snow himself and then let anyone else use the spot?

I KNOW the @ss-hole with the NY plates! He’s the same “me first, f*ck you!” idiot that parks at the curb in front of the grocery store because he’s “special” (or so he thinks). Only us gullible ones park in the lot so everyone can deal fairly with each other. I’m soon going to have to sedaate myself before I go to the shopping center so I don’t do something stupid. It’s funny how often these cars have obambi stickers. Probably just a coincidence. sigh

this gy is lucky- if I had shoveled that snow and someone else parked there then some snow would be the least of his problems. I would probably have gone postal on his car with my snow shovel

“What’s snow?”

It’s something I dealt with for 46 years. And I don’t miss it at all.

I think I once heard of a dibs-breaker getting their car hosed down so it was encased in ice when they returned.

No, I think he should park in his driveway. Or even better, his garage.

That’s what normal people do.

"But I think he is a total dick...a blue and yellow Monte Carlo with New York plates."

Just the New York plates would have told you all you need to know.

Did you shovel it back on to “his side” of the driveway?

I lived in a beach community with no parking, and through a fluke of history and the coastal commission, I had two personal parking spaces alongside my little beach cottage.

The fighting that I did to protect them over the years was epic, especially during events like the 4th of July.

Thank God I live in Texas.

It's easy to scorn people who live elsewhere or can't afford off-street parking, then, isn't it? If you haven't lived in the situation, why bother to comment so disdainfully? Do you want all the northeasterners to move to Texas? I'm sure you wouldn't like that, either.

A space saver is usually an old chair or trash can to mark a street parking space previously shoveled out by the "owner" of the space. Etiquette says you don't park in a space someone else shoveled out.

Yeah but I’m from Chicago the tradition is so abused and the vandalism is out of control. They’re cutting brake lines.
