“stating that the company is not involved in the supposed PRISM project and that it does not grant government agencies direct access to the company’s servers.”

Direct Access.....

Local police can turn your cheap phone on. That was reported on local news a while back.

This is my fear of how they can destroy someone like Cruz. If they can “get into” your phone, they can put whatever they want on it.

Do not own a cell phone. They are not necessary.

I will never own one. I find them invasive and irritating. You couldn’t pay me to own one.

I’m with you. During the year I count the number of times I say to myself, “Gee, I really, really wish I had a cell phone right now.” I have said that if I get more than five times like that I will consider a cell phone. Hasn’t happened yet.

I get a kick out of my friends who are addicted to their phones. Checking the stock market every 10 minutes, etc.

Some of the cell phones comprise health risks through radiation. Too many users have contracted tumors in the ear area, not to notice.

Hilarious. Google, facebook and apple are the biggest Dem contributors. Anything that Buttcrack Odumbo says , they do.

I have a problem with the intrusiveness of both Facebook and Google. I have no doubt that Mr. Snowden’s observations about iPhones are completely true. I also have no doubt that every Google Android phone is also no challenge for the NSA or any other law enforcement agency to use to monitor anyone.

Currently, cell phones have become an amazing value. Devices with amazing capabilities can be purchased for a fraction of what their original owners paid and then activate them with an MVNO (a reseller of data and cell time from the major carriers) with no contract for a fraction of what these services used to cost.

I am the first to admit that the services are not essential for my wife or I, but they have changed the way we do things. We almost always listen to Pandora in the car instead of the radio... no more commercials or irritating DJs and music that we like. My wife texts and sends and receives pictures from her sister all of the time. I am able to talk to my phone to tell it where I want the GPS to guide us and get updates of the traffic problems ahead. We can use our them to connect our laptops or tablets to the internet any time we are in range of a cell tower. When we are shopping we can take a picture of the UPC code to compare the price to what other retailers are asking. At Harbor Freight and a lot of other retailers you can show them their online coupons instead of stuffing them in your pockets.

There are a dozens of other ways that we use the phones. Between the two of us we actually have three and our monthly bill is right around $50 for all of them combined. I will not argue that they are necessary or that they are not time wasters, but for us they are worth the $50 a month. I kind of doubt that anyone is bothering to keep a close eye on us.

Sounds to me like you are saying that your little "time wasters" spy on you, but that's OK because they're entertaining and cheap.

Your choice, FRiend.

A Russian Journalist claims Snowden's attorney says that Snowden will not use an iPhone because it has "secret backdoor spyware" installed in it! Keep in mind this is coming from RUSSIA where Apple has just raised prices in the App store and Russia is actively discouraging the purchase of Apple products by its citizens. . . and a statue of Steve Jobs was just dismantled. In addition, the last time that Snowden made such a claim was in 2013 when he released a document to back-up his claim. . . a document in which the NSA had developed spyware for the iPhone called "DROPOUTJEEP" which caused quite a flurry at that time. . . including the German government dropping the use of iOS products. However, lost in all that hype was the fact that that document was written prior to its distribution on October 1, 2008, four months after Apple opened the App Store six and a half years ago! In addition, since then the iPhone has been gone over by multiple developers and no one has found any "backdoors" in the software.

This was an exploit for the FIRST MODEL iPhone and in addition, as specified on the document, REQUIRED physical possession of the iPhone to install the spyware! DROPOUTJEEP specifically states it is an "implant" exploit. . . requiring "close access methods" to deploy. i.e. physical access to the iPhone to install the spyware. Someone had to intercept a specific iPhone before the target to be spied on received it. . . or they had to get to it after delivery to secretly install the spyware. That was the state of SNOWDEN's knowledge about the iPhone. . . there is no reason to believe that he suddenly has new knowledge to add. PERIOD.

Finally, it is FUD Season. . . Tuesday is when Apple will announce the results of the 1st quarter of the 2015 fiscal year. . . and as usual, for three weeks prior to any Apple event of such a nature, FUD will be flying hot and heavy. — PING!

“stating that the company is not involved in the supposed PRISM project and that it does not grant government agencies direct access to the company’s servers.”

Apple was not a member of PRISM. . . and said so contemporaneously and later. They have denied it all along. They have made their servers even more inaccessible. Even Apple cannot decrypt user data that is stored on the servers.
