WASHINGTON The F.B.I. and Justice Department prosecutors have recommended bringing felony charges against retired Gen. David H. Petraeus for providing classified information to his former mistress while he was director of the C.I.A., officials said, leaving Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to decide whether to seek an indictment that could send the pre-eminent military officer of his generation to prison.
The Justice Department investigation stems from an affair Mr. Petraeus had with Paula Broadwell, an Army Reserve officer who was writing his biography, and focuses on whether he gave her access to his C.I.A. email account and other highly classified information. F.B.I. agents discovered classified documents on her computer after Mr. Petraeus resigned from the C.I.A. in 2012 when the affair became public.
Mr. Petraeus, a retired four-star general who served as commander of American forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan, has said he never provided classified information to Ms. Broadwell, and has indicated to the Justice Department that he has no interest in a plea deal that would spare him an embarrassing trial. A lawyer for Mr. Petraeus, Robert B. Barnett, said Friday he had no comment.

What happened? Did Patreus shoot an unarmed black teen ?
Petraeus must present some kind of threat to this administration.
Ding, ding, ding. You win!
Petraeus should be prosecuted for total stupidity
throw out his ideas on COIN too
Oh for cripes sakes....How much lint in Michelle’s bottomless belly button is classified.
No, Holder is under the gun to bury the truth on Benghazi to protect zero. Blackmail evidently was not going to work so they have to bring out the big guns. Hopefully, Patreus will finally put the real evidence on the table.
They would never do this to one of their own, no matter what the offense.
This is from the Never fukinever gonna happen files of the NYT wish list..
Why now?
To change the topic from the Islamic atrocities in France.
Can’t have an honest debate on the Islamic threat, the whole strategy of the project is to subvert the West covertly, until its too late.
Putting Petraeus’ head on a pole is particularly good for raising the morale of Islamists, helping maintain their momentum.
I think that Petraeus won’t be that easy to kill though. He knows where some of the bodies are buried, and knows how to play chess with people.
Petraeus screwed up but he paid the price she he was forced out at the CIA
this is just more of the same of the obama administration selective prosecution when it comes to leaks.
Petraeus did great things for America in Iraq and Afghanistan. i hope that a future republican president in 2017 can pardon Patraeus for any convictions from this bogus prosecution
He probably talked to Gowdy.
They’re going all out to make sure Petraeus doesn’t squeal about Benghazi.
Screw that noise. There should be one set of standards in the US military. If you break the UCMJ you should be punished, regardless of your rank.
NSA at work.
Really? Is this for real? Is there no end to the corruption of our leaders? Like said, Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It all starts from the lowest city council member and to the the White House. I now believe that most who aspire to be politicians are on power trips rather than wanting the best for their communities.
Some may start with good intentions, but once in office and realize the power they have, they become more about their lives and legacies. That,s why the Founding Fathers believed politicians should serve short time in office and go back to their livlihood.
Too bad they couldn,t forsee career politicians making such a mess of things and included term limits in the Constitution.
this is an obvious distraction to draw scrutiny away from te admin on something. perhaps the whole isis getting our air drops issue.
What is the surprise? He is white.
I believe you are right. Powerful people should be just as accountable (perhaps more so) than the less powerful. If the general passed on classified info...he needs to pay the price.
