Garry Trudeau, Call Your Office
The Washington Free Beacon ^ | December 29, 2014 | Sonny Bunch

Posted on 12/30/2014 6:19:10 AM PST by Lonesome in Massachussets

I realize that Doonesbury is nothing more than liberal pap designed to make Baby Boomers feel good about themselves—yes, yes, Garry Trudeau, Republicans are squares and warmongers, we get it, you’re from the 60s, get out, back to the 60s, there’s no place for you here in the future!—but even still, this weekend’s strip is pretty egregiously terrible. Check it out, it’ll only take you a couple of seconds to read.

If you don’t want to read it, allow me to describe it to you. One of the characters, a mom, is telling her daughter than she’s not allowed to go to UVA. This young girl is not allowed to go to UVA because, like many other olds, the mom just received, via snail mail I presume, the issue of Rolling Stone featuring Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s thoroughly discredited piece about a gang rape at the University of Virginia. And, like many other olds—like even Garry Trudeau, perhaps—this mom is so out of touch, so completely ignorant of the Internet, she has no idea that the piece fell apart within weeks of publication because it looks like the central anecdote, about a girl who claimed to have been gang raped by a pack of young men as a fraternity initiation, is in all probability a pack of lies concocted by a (likely troubled) young woman who was trying to win the attention of a boy she liked.

It is, and always has been, editorializing for the Left. That’s why it’s in cartoon form. They can understand it better....................!

"is in all probability a pack of lies concocted by a (likely troubled) young woman who was trying to win the attention of a boy she liked."

So the liberals go to their fallback position: "Well, maybe it's not true. But it calls attention to the problem of rape on campus."

OMG, it’s worse than I thought. He just couldn’t resist the opportunity to perpetuate the slander. Some commentators said that when the dust settled, the public would remember lie, not that it was a hoax.

Might UVA have a cause of action against Mr. Trudeau?

Just can’t let the inconvenient truth get in the way of the desired narrative, eh?

That he is so utterly uninformed is the punchline

I’m waiting for his strip on the Duke lacrosse player gang rape.

Like many in the liberal media, Trudeau has successfully wrapped up political propaganda in entertaining packaging in order to create persistent impressions about conservatives. Doonesbury, The Daily Show, Colbert, Family Guy, Rolling Stone, and Saturday Night Live regularly mock Republicans in the worst possible way, which has now been ingrained in the national psyche. Flat-out falsehoods about things Sarah Palin or Dan Quayle have said are taken as solid truth by the majority of Americans

Isn’t he the husband of a former Today show host, Jane Pauley? Lost respect for her!

I'd say this gang rape story is fake but accurate!

"But we have a responsibility ...to produce a punch line."

Trudeau is the punchline. He just doesn't know it.

I, too, hail from the Gulag Massachusettskiy. You're not as alone as these would-be Stalinists would prefer you to believe.

Trudeau and his "humor," much like George Carlin, peaked in the '70's and just can't let go. Like most Liberals, he finds comfort in angst, and meaning in turmoil. Absent the angst and turmoil, their lives are pointless, for there is no productive good in them.

Truly pathetic.

It would have been funny if the Dad ended up telling her it was false.

And then telling the kid, “OK, you can go there.”

See, I think people have it all wrong. Trudeau is SPOOFING liberals by mocking them with their phony-baloney causes and his boring old punchlines he keeps using decade adter decade.

If Doonesbury was posted as an FR thread - it would have to come with (SATIRE) in the title.

I read Doonesbury back in the early ‘70s. Although I didn’t like its political slant, from time to time it was actually funny. Importantly, some of the characters on both sides of the aisle were likeable.

What the heck happened to Boopsie?! She was a classic ditzy blonde who enjoyed a good time with no real underlying political philosophy. Her default position would be to go along with B.D., who was a “kill a Commie for Mommie” right-winger. I understand they are older, and the intensity would be dialed down, but this Boopsie and B.D. are NOT the same characters Trudeau himself created a long time ago.

I’m guessing that his acknowlegement that the “flaws” in the Rolling Stone article didn’t matter open him up to libel charges.

Not that UVA will pursue them, or that the modern court system would permit the plaintiffs to win ... but the point of lawfare is to create messy, public and expensive to defend lawsuits where winning is a secondary consideration.
