Angelina Jolie Wins Christmas Day Box Office With Unbroken, Bests Into the Woods Celebrity News Dec. 26, 2014 AT 5:30PM By Madeline Boardman
Merry Christmas, indeed! Angelina Jolie unwrapped a $15 million present on Thursday, Dec. 25, when her new movie Unbroken won the Christmas Day box office.
The drama, which is Jolie's sophomore directorial effort, debuted in 3,131 theaters. An adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's non-fiction book of the same name, Unbroken brought in $15.59 million to take the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office.
Angelina may have learned a lot about directing from Clint Eastwood. I think she was cast in one of his films about a female boxer many years ago.
And the idiotic movie I endured for two hours, like a bad “Interview”, is doing only $1 millionish so far.
That was Hillary Swank.
Streep is almost overexposed these days, and tends to play the same sort of character, from what I can discern through the previews. Overexposed, the way Vanessa Redgrave used to be relied upon for almost every “Ladies With Hats” Period Piece in British Theatre.
Oh, you’re right. I thought Angelina had done some work with Clint. Maybe in another venue. Hilary Swank is an underrated actress. I think she played Amelia Earhart the pilot. A demanding role, where she had to recreate the same emotional environment.
I heard Jolie deleted the religious parts from the book. Is this true?
No, Jolie spoke with Zemperini countless times and it stayed true to the book. Mind you, the book and script was in development since the 1950’s.
They have somewhat similar looks. Hillary Swank is a pretty good actress. I’ll forgive her for The Next Karate Kid. :)
Why did you watch it LOL
It sucked but it’s just my 2 cents. Got the screener from a friend who worked on it. This was the last Robin Williams movie so beware it might be kinda sad.
I saw The Gambler, which was number 5 on the list. I liked it much more than the critics did.
A friend coughed up the $5.99 and everyone seemed interested.
I said “Fine. Let’s get past this hoax and watch some childish scripting”.
No adults were amused and I was thinking “How could Hangover IV get better?”.
And it would probably be hilarious.
This movie was dumb and so is anyone who fell for the whole hacking thing.
The only thing hacked was the script...and it was done to death.
Thankfully no real humans were harmed and there was only one fee of $5.99 paid and not 7, which is what would have happened had we seen this dud at a theater.
No one will ever fall for this again though...
Nevertheless, I want to see Into the Woods and not the other one. Steven Sondheim wrote it, he’s as clever as they come.
Very entertaining. I met Joanna Gleason from the original Broadway cast years ago — her husband was a colleague of mine. She does a terrific job as The Baker’s Wife.
I find this number from the B’way show utterly charming — tho not everyone here will agree:

I see, you were sort of forced into it. Reminds me of the ex-GF who threatened me with no sex if I didn’t watch Sex in The City with her, and I chose no sex..with her. It’s not a hassle for me to replace girlfriends.
They hate us, because they ain’t us.
She did.....and it was from the movie, The Changeling.....(I liked it)
Wow.
That analogy hurts...
LOL
