So how are we all faring here in the face of this deadly NorCal storm?

Since my house didn't blow away and I still have power I'm doing a cookathon laundry extravaganza!

Not here in Antelope (Sacto)
Winds didn’t hit the forecast speeds - still lots of trees down.
Rain hasn’t been too intense. Max rate at my house has been about a half inch per hour. steady at a quarter inch.

Once the schools open back up, the state government will be assigning bilingual grief counselors to each district.

They will explain big wind and water from the sky is not caused by monsters, and that mother nature is not crying or gasping, even though white humans are making the earth very angry.

It’s just a little bit of rain. Ran 3.2 miles in it this morning.

Wouldn’t even be a shower by Montana standards

A friend of mine was a minor league ball player. He played on a team in Nebraska. His coach encouraged the kids to find work to augment what little they were making on the team.

He was painting fences with another guy from NY down on some guy’s farm, and the boss asked if they were hungry. The three of them rolled up to this little house, got out, and walked around to the backyard. There were four picnic tables there full of people eating and looking like they were going to orgasm.

For $3, they got a plate of food and a jar of apple juice. Huge plate. His boss warned them not to over eat, since there was more painting to be done.

Cuban stew and caramel pecan sticky rolls is the kind of thing you ought to be selling off your back porch. I’d drive 100 miles for it. Where else you going to find it?

High desert and areas that were burned don’t usually fare too well with the type of rain forecast.

Flooding in the desert and landslides on the burned slopes...

But Lord knows we need the rain.

We do get flashfloods here in So Cal. Google pix of the 1923 flood/ mudslide that wiped out whole communities and sent boulders the size of homes down the foothills. They’ve been cleaning out flood channels and basins this week, so that will help. And 24’ waves are predicted at the shore. Our friend is up north of San Fran and was watching 20’ waves last night from his cliff-side home.

We are happy for the rain but battening down the hatches. Wind and thunder and lightning predicted. I suggested to my husband that we choose a hotel ahead of time this time. A few years ago the power was out for a week and it was awful.

I wondered about that. ‘WORST DROUGHT IN 150 YEARS!!!” WORST RAIN IN 200 YEARS!!!’ Aren’t these people EVER satisfied saying Gee, the weather is pretty much normal here today.

They will still say, “The rain was nice, but it doesn’t change things. We are still in a drought.” THey would say it if we had Noah’s Flood here. NEVER grateful, never enough.

I’ve been praying for rain. We desperately need it.

I thank the Lord we are now getting it.

So far so good in Southern Sac Co. (I actually don’t live in EG any more). Tied everything down last night so no real wind damage. Just waiting now to see what the rainfall brings. If by chance the Cosumnes River jumps its banks like it did in 96 then I’ll have some serious issues to deal with.

I was wondering.

I’m out of work at 1PM so then make the long drive on the freeway. I hope I make it home before the rain.

I’m up on the 25th floor. So far, no rain in Santa Monica.

They said they are mostly concerned with “Micro Bursts” ... not a lot of sustained rain. Beats me, but my understaning is that the micro bursts do more damage.
