FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson did not receive a severance package when he resigned over the weekend, the St. Louis suburb's mayor said Sunday. Wilson, 28, won't receive any further pay or benefits, and he and the city have severed their ties, Mayor James Knowles told reporters a day after Wilson tendered his resignation, which was effective immediately. Wilson, who is white, had been on administrative leave since he killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old, during an Aug. 9 confrontation. He wrote in his resignation letter that his "continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance I cannot allow."

Well this is just another reason that living in Ferguson is not safe. Police officers felt threatened by a mob.
This gives the mob power. The police department and the city are too stupid to figure it out.
Isn't the police supposed to be law and not a black mob?

I quess the unions now know where they stand. Any accusation aqainst you - even when you’re ultimately vindicated - and you can kiss the benefits of union membership qood-bye.

not all black people. there are a small minority who are smart, social, well adjusted and would rather be with any other people that think like them, no matter what color they are.

He did his job and put his life on the line and performed a justified shoot in self-defense.
its not over.....I suspect he has a lawyer who will secure a nice big fat payment for him, which he deserves for the crap he put up with....
If they won’t do severance he should have filed a comp claim and law suit.

If he hasn’t already done so, he should file a workers comp claim for his injuries, no matter how slight they might have been, then lawyer up and sue, sue, sue for not getting a severance package. Shouldn’t the union be supporting him in all this?

Maybe the same people who gave money to the cake lady will give some to officer Wilson.
His resignation was done to save his life. He will have to go into self exile.
I think more people are figuring it out.

His life is totally ruined. The career he studied for is gone. And this is the thanks the city gives him? There truly is no justice in the world.
Why is this even a question? Yes, it is a shame that Wilson was essentially forced to resign by the Ferguson mobs, but would a police officer who resigns typically (ever?) receive a severance package? I think not.
Also, while the shooting was justified self-defense, and the attacks on Wilson are race-baiting nonsense, Wilson’s actions that day were hardly great police work. He let himself get into a far worse situation than a better office would have, or any officer should have.
