FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson did not receive a severance package when he resigned over the weekend, the St. Louis suburb's mayor said Sunday. Wilson, 28, won't receive any further pay or benefits, and he and the city have severed their ties, Mayor James Knowles told reporters a day after Wilson tendered his resignation, which was effective immediately. Wilson, who is white, had been on administrative leave since he killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old, during an Aug. 9 confrontation. He wrote in his resignation letter that his "continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance I cannot allow."

This is too much of a political hot-potato for his union.

Darren Wilson To Receive $1 Million Dollars In Donations From Loyal Supporters

Once again, we have to turn to foreign media to get the rest of the story.

Wilson hasn’t committed any felonies. Perhaps he should talk to Lois Lerner about how to get a severance package.

It still amazes me that libs believe that an “unarmed” man is not a potential threat. have they never heard of unarmed combat? Seriously.

The whole police force should tender their resignations for just the reasons you outlined. It’s not safe for them ... the risk is not worth what they are paid.

The mob won.

Now let the good taxpayers of Ferguson hire a new police force. I bet they won’t find new officers for as little as they were paying Officer Wilson. They’ll have to pay double at least. As they should

I wish people would stop sending money to everyone else, and send it all to Wilson.

On a side note, how are property values doing in Ferguson?

I imagine there are a few people who want to sell but not many buyers.

White people do not understand that black people hate them and want them dead.

No, I still think most black people are just trying to get along and make a living, like everyone else.

There were too many outside agitators that showed up in Fergadishu -- we need to root them out.

Black people are not our biggest problem. Eventually they will break away from their slavish devotion to the Democrat party.

But Muslims....

What a lousy city...the officer does his job, is almost murdered by a thug criminal, is put through legal BS, probably has more to come, has his life threatened by ferals...and this is how they treat him. Ferguson...you deserve your suck.

Yeah, I guess the 4800 or so people killed each year by non-firearm related assaults don’t count as a risk.

He let himself get into a far worse situation than a better office would have, or any officer should have.

Surely you jest, but perhaps not. Please share with us what you believe would have been a better practice for an LEO.

I haven't read a timeline of this event, but estimate that it went from a petty circumstance - that did not warrant a call for backup - to a bloody, life or death confrontation all in a matter of seconds.

Is “Unarmed black 18 year old” the thug’s new first name?

That headline is misleading. The 1 million dollars number is suggested by the interviewer, and the woman being interviewed says it’s a *possibility*, not an actuality.

There’s also some debate over whether Wilson gets any of the collected money because it was collected specifically for his legal fees, rather than for living expenses AND legal fees. Since his legal fees to date have been paid for by his union, The Powers That Be who run the website where the money was collected are still debating whether to pass the money on or refund it, last I read.

Workers Comp is limited in most states-I used to be a comp case manager-here, once you apply for comp, you just get the bills for the injury paid, and money for your time off work, if any.

The comp deal would just be a gesture-not a vehicle for money. But once this guy gets lawyered up, a good one is going to go after the deepest pockets, namely his former employer-probably look at his employment contract-if any-union rules, etc, and base damages on whatever can be maxed out best for Wilson-I don’t think it will be a small amount...

Out of curiosity, what/who would you go for? I saw that the union was helping him with some stuff, so does that put them in a good light?
