FULL TITLE: "The moment Cleveland cop shot dead a 12-year-old boy in the playground: Footage captures moment officer killed Tamir Rice after mistaking his BB gun for a real weapon"
Cleveland police have released video footage showing the moment 12-year-old Tamir Rice was shot dead by a rookie officer who mistook his BB gun for a real weapon.
The boy was shot by Timothy Loehmann, 26, on Saturday after a 911 caller reported seeing a juvenile waving around a gun - but did not know whether or not it was real. Newly-released audio showed that the 911 dispatcher did not pass on this concern to the responding officers.
At a press conference on Wednesday, authorities released the 911 call, police dispatch calls and a grainy video showing the moment the officers arrived and shot the boy.
The footage shows Rice - who the officers thought was about 20 - reaching for his waistband instead of responding to police requests to raise his hands, police said. They fatally shot him just two seconds after pulling up in their cruiser, the footage shows.

Notice how the Mail continues to say the boy was “Gunned down” instead of “shot” (because of his suspicious behavior.
Typical British anti-American shit and I’m tired of it. Surprised that the Mail did it. Always expect it of the Guardian, a Marxist-oriented national rag.
I have one like that, is used for training and is NOT a BB gun, it is a pellet gun and is used for training where firearms would be dangerous. It looks and feels just like a firearm. You would have to be inches away before you would be sure. Mine is made by Beeman. The reason for the exact look, feel, and weight is so you will be ready when you have the real thing in hand. It even has a little "kick." I credit my Beeman with helping me keep my Navy "Expert" medal. And yes, I actually had to carry once on one of my active duty assignments in the Contra war.
As I have said over and over... Michael Brown was the wrong police brutality/police racism hill to die on. If you truly think the cops are racist or use excessive force, don’t use this case to justify your opposition. Ever. Because people take one look at the evidence and know that Brown was a thug who robbed a store, assaulted a store clerk, then attacked a police officer. Brown ended up dead because of his poor choices.
There are cases where the police abused power. Brown’s case IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
President zero got involved in this case because of the midterm elections. He couldn’t care less about Brown and his family. He wanted to use this dead man’s corpse (pronounced corpse) to try to stir up black votes for the midterms. And he used holder and the media to try to do it. But it did not work.
Brown’s family needs to grieve in private and hopefully be comforted by the fact that their son’s death did not result in a congressional majority for zero. Because that is why zero wanted to use Michael Brown. I am very sorry that the Michael Brown’s death has been used by the lying, cheating, conniving zero to try to further his anti-God socialist movement in America.
Young boys killing with guns is very very common place in some neighborhoods.
Truth.
Growing up I carried a toy gun around from pretty much the time I could walk and stalked then neighbors with them. One actually even fired cork balls.
Graduated to BB guns as soon as I was able to overcome my parents better judgment and a 22 soon after that (didn't stalk the neighbors with those, BTW)
In today's word I would probably have been shot many times over by the cops.
“IT WAS NOT A TOY”
Of course it was a toy. It shots 6mm plastic pellets. Other than getting hit in the eye there harmless. And regarding the eye, a pencil will put out the eye and it’s not a weapon.
Perception is reality.
In that situation, with a split second to decide, are you going to bet your life on it being a toy?
“Something we need to return to is cops with the courage to take some risk, currently they just kill whatever is in front of them as though they are conducting a raid on an enemy camp.”
Kind of like weeding your vegitable garden with a D9 Cat...
I don't say this to excuse the behavior of all police officers, but a society that has degenerated to the point where we call the police to deal with a problem rather than dealing with it ourselves really has no business complaining about how they do their jobs.
I hate to see incidents end like this one did, but if this kid was walking around a neighborhood threatening people like this in a place where there was no police department, he probably would have faced a much worse fate than this.
Not sure if that is the same. The first thing children are taught, even with a BB gun, is to NEVER POINT IT AT A PERSON.
Was this kid pointing the gun at people? The video I saw was blurry, so I couldn’t tell for sure but it looked like he was brandishing the gun in a manner that, to me, would have been concerning.
If someone has a gun, ANY gun- including a “toy” BB gun, they would be expected to hold it, display it, and use it in a safe manner at all times.
The video seems distorted, like he appears shorter and squatter than reality, but maybe that is just me.
But THAT is a video of a young boy playing, not a threat to anyone.
...
I don’t think the police got to see what you saw. According to another article they saw the gun on the table. They saw the boy pick it up and put it in his waistband. They told him to put his hands up, but he went for his waistband instead.
Seriously?
Since the kid had been walking around with the gun for some time and done nothing, looks like the cops would have pulled in much further away and questioned the kid from a distance.
Kid was acting carelessly, but cops could have taken more precautions rather than pulling right up to him.
“In that situation, with a split second to decide, are you going to bet your life on it being a toy?”
Your damned right if it meant killing a child.
A toy that “other than getting hit in the eye” is harmless? That’s the definition of a toy? Then let’s call Clorox a toy.
A child can shoot you just as dead as an adult.
“In that situation, with a split second to decide, are you going to bet your life on it being a toy?”
And if you were carrying and shot this boy under similar circumstances you would NEVER get out of prison. Just asking that question tells me you should never have a CCW.
Good point.
Muzzle discipline was ingrained in me from as early as I can remember, as was checking the chamber to check to see if the gun was loaded.
The latest generation dies not share this particular brand of firearm etiquette
Video games and Paintball/ Airsoft gun shooting games may be partially responsible
“A child can shoot you just as dead as an adult.”
By accident... I have a 9mm semiautomatic and it takes some level of training and skill. That’s why I go to the range regularly.
