If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies, ok? lack of transparency is a huge political advantage and basically, you know, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically, that was really, really critical to getting this thing to pass.
18 visits over a 5 year period, and Obama doesnt know who he is?
Obama on March 28, 2011: Univision Town Hall: Well, I think it is important to remind everybody that, as I said I think previously, and Im not a king. I am the head of the executive branch of government. Im required to follow the law. And thats what weve done. But what Ive also said is, lets make sure that were applying the law in a way that takes into account peoples humanity. Thats the reason that we moved forward on deferred action. Within the confines of the law we said, we have some discretion in terms of how we apply this law. The same is true with respect to the kinds of the length of time that people have to spend outside of the country when their spouses are already here for example.
Obama on Feb. 14, 2013: Google Hangout The problem is that you know Im the president of the United States. Im not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed, and Congress right now has not changed what I consider to be a broken immigration system. And what that means is that we have certain obligations to enforce the laws that are in place, even if we think that in many cases the results may be tragic. And what we have been able to do is to make sure that were focusing our enforcement resources on criminals as opposed to somebody whos here, just trying to work and look after their families.
What we have tried to do is administratively reduce the burdens and hardships on families being separated. And what weve done, obviously, is pass the deferred action which made sure that the dream, uh, uh dreamers, young people who were brought here and think of themselves as Americans, are American except for their papers, that theyre not deported. Having said all that, weve got to stretch our administrative flexibility as much as we can. And thats why making sure we get comprehensive immigration reform done is so important.
Obama on Sept. 17, 2013: Interview with Telemundos Jose Diaz-Balart: Heres the problem that I have, Jose, and I have said this consistently. My job in the executive branch is to carry out the laws that are passed. Congress has said, heres the law when it comes to those who are undocumented, and they allocate a whole bunch of money for enforcement. What I have been able to do is make a legal argument that I think is absolutely right, which is that given the resources we have, we cant do everything that Congress has asked us to do, what we can do is then carve out the DREAM Act folks.
But if we start broadening that, then essentially, I would be ignoring the law in a way that I think would be very difficult to defend legally. So thats not an option. I do get a little worried that advocates of immigration reform start losing heart and immediately thinking, well, somehow theres an out here that if Congress doesnt act, we will just have the president sign something and that will take care of it, and we wont have to worry about it. What I have said is that there is a path to get this done and that is through Congress.

Bet you didn’t know this about Cosby.....
Back in the day when I had tons of discretionary income....we were in Manhattan looking for a good deal on a Montblanc fountain pen.
We ended up at a tiny place called the Fountain Pen Hospital. We learned that Cosby was a big collector....and there subsequently was an article about it in Cigar Aficionado.

[That’s all I’ve got, except the story about when his daughter was a student at Wesleyan University.]
An eccentric billionaire wanted a mural painted on his library wall, so he called an artist.
Describing what he wanted, the billionaire said, “I am a history buff, and I would like your interpretation of the last thing that went through Custer’s mind before he died. I am going out of town on business for a week, and when I return, I expect to see it completed.”
Upon his return, the billionaire went to the library to examine the finished work. To his surprise, he found a painting of a cow with a halo. Surrounding this were hundreds of Indians in various sexual positions.
Furious, he called the artist in. “What the hell is this?” screamed the billionaire.
“Why, that’s exactly what you asked for,” said the artist smugly.
“No! I didn’t ask for a mural of pornographic filth. I asked for an interpretation of Custer’s last thoughts!”
“And there you have it,” said the artist. “I call it, ‘Holy cow, look at all those f*cking Indians.’”
