There have been actors that have made people laugh since the days of Charlie Chaplin. We all have our favorites whether it's John Candy is or Robin Williams. Who do you think are the three funniest actors of all time?
Well, it was a few scenes from Borat that had me splitting a gut. The interface between reality and acting in that show strikes a chord somehow, but there is something to offend everyone in it, too.
Henny Youngman. (four words......,”take my wife......Please!”)
Coolidge was president, and all was well with the world, except for Prohibition.
This was my all-time favorite....

“The Nairobi Trio: “Solfeggio”
(see previous post for link)
There are several YouTube videos of this, but to my way of thinking, this is the definitive version.
Ditto
Let's not imply that Germans are lacking a collective sense of humor, now. After all, they're big fans of David Hasselhoff. There's something innately funny about that, no matter how you look at it. ;-)
Also, the Germans have the oddest New Year's tradition. Apparently, they always broadcast a short comedy film called "Dinner For One" to ring in the new year. I saw it for the first time back in the '80s when HBO used it as filler material. It's like equal parts of Benny Hill and Foster Brooks.
Benny Hill was a good one.
His theme song was “Big Daddy’s Alabama Bound” sort of odd for an English guy but it fit his antics perfectly.
My mistake. I believe I actually referred to him as a certain “Mr. Basil Fawlty”.
“Harvey Korman since nobodys mentioned him.”
...particularly, in “Lord Love A Duck”.
If you’ve ever wondered how Kalifornia ever got that way, the clues are in this film.
IMO, some of his work in The Carol Burnett show was marred by his inability to control his laughter.
THEY SAID IT COULDN’T BE DONE
by
Benny Hill
They said that it could not be done,
He said, “Just let me try.”
They said, “Other men have tried and failed,”
He answered, “But not I.”
They said, “It is impossible,”
He said, “There’s no such word.”
He closed his mind, he closed his heart...
To everything he heard.
He said, “Within the heart of man,
There is a tiny seed.
It grows until it blossoms,
It’s called the will to succeed.
Its roots are strength, its stem is hope,
Its petals inspiration,
Its thorns protect its strong green leaves,
With grim determination.
“Its stamens are its skills
Which help to shape each plan,
For there’s nothing in the universe
Beyond the scope of man.”
They thought that it could not be done,
Some even said they knew it,
But he faced up to what could not be done...
AND HE COULDN’T BLOODY DO IT!
“Sid Caesar was good, too.”
It’s a darned shame that many of the Your Show of Shows videos are crude kinescopes that are barely watchable. Here was a Great Comedian cut short by drink.
Like!
Groucho Marx, Jonathan Winters and John Belushi
I was going to say Cary Grant also.. a lot of people don’t get it.. but Grant was a master of comic timing
One time when I was young I was lying on the beach in Santa Monica with my eyes closed, half dreaming. All of a sudden I heard the most distinctive voice in the world. Rodney Dangerfield was asking a random guy on the beach, “ hey, can I tell you a joke?” When I opened my eyes, I saw him standing there in a white terry cloth robe, trying out a new joke on this random guy. The guy laughed uproariously and Dangerfield thanked him and moved on.
Afterward, his friend asked the guy, “Did you really think that was funny?” The guy said no. Which I thought was kind of mean.
How many remember the “Mitch Miller Show”?
“Be kind to your friends in the swamp” to the tune of Stars and Stripes forever.
“The Germans tried to be funny.”
By amazing coincidence, many of our greatest comedians happen to be Jewish. They lost a lot more than their best A-bomb and rocket scientists.
Zwei Peanutten war walking down the strasse. Und one was assulted.
Peanut.
Everyone is talking about intentional ‘comedians’ here.
My favorite ‘actor’ here would be Christopher Walken.
He has always played rather out-of-their-minds characters. He was always able to find that exact edge of beleivablility in portraying how such a person would behave.
Not to mention he was the first to demand, against all odds, nay, to die for, more Cowbell.
