Mayor Eric Garcetti is wrong when he says Los Angeles shouldn't give taxpayer dollars to the National Football League. To the contrary, L.A. would be wise to pay the NFL to stay away from Southern California. Permanently.
Unfortunately, 20 years after the Raiders and Rams left town, the very bad idea of luring the NFL back is gaining momentum. The city of Los Angeles just extended a downtown stadium deal agreement that was expiring. The NFL is surveying rich Angelenos to see if they'd buy season tickets. Garcetti himself says it's "highly likely" a team will relocate here in the near future.
So there's no time to waste in organizing an all-out blitz to stop the drive for a new team before it reaches the goal line. The arguments against bringing the NFL are so strong and numerous that I can't list them all in a short column, but here are some of the all-stars among them:

Don’t worry it won’t happen. LA is too useful as blackmail, that emptiness has caused many stadiums to be built. And some are getting close to time for replacement.
LA La-La’s?
No we don’t need stupid thug football in our city. NFL - stay away with your uneducated, slave labor ball players and overpriced, overconsumed cheap trinkets and crap
Winner, winner, chicken dinner. We're too valuable of a bargaining chip to pass up.
LA can have the Dallas Cowgirls.
I like NFL team as long it not the Raiders
I take the Chargers over the Raiders
I am Raider fan ES
Si. A terrible idea. The Reconquesta is nearly complete and nobody want stinkin American football.
Exactly. 30 NFL owners loose their leverage to shakedown the local potentates. None of them will ever allow a team to locate in LA.
Since the NFL vacated LA, look at what happened to the average value of an NFL franchise. It’s over $1 billion now.
That looks like the Daily Planet building from Superman.
Maybe we can donate small amounts in the North Bay area to get the Oakland Thugs/Hoods/Raiders to move back to LA and taker their feral fans with them.
Except the Lambs. In STL they're worth $900 Million. In LA, their worth doubles to $1.8 Billion. Sam Walton's SIL can't pass that up.
No kidding on that feral fan description!
Where have you gone, Roman Gabriel?
“I take the Chargers over the Raiders”
Please do not say that. As a native San Diegan, I am still ticked that LA took the Clippers.
I don’t care much about pro sports, but there are a lot of jobs that go into running a stadium. I think, if LA didn’t make an overly generous offer (a big if) having a football team back in the area would be good for the local, entry-level jobs it provides (parking, concessions, etc).
Besides, it will make LA a little more American, if it has real football, in addition to futbol.
The next biggest metro area after LA without a football team nearby is Portland, Oregon - and no one will build a stadium if the threat is the Portland Bengals, Portland Vikings or Portland Bills.
I was expecting some politically correct attack on the NFL, but this actually makes a lot of sense.
We already have a football team. Thier called the L.A. Galaxy..
