Many of the cases of measles were, in fact, brought home by unvaccinated people who traveled to other countries and brought back measles as a souvenir. We can thank the anti-vax fanatics for this one. Everyone should be vaccinated for measles, mumps, rubella, etc.
There are plenty of diseases coming across our border, though. What happens if, among the illegals pouring across the border, some have malaria? And then our native mosquitoes catch the malaria from them? Malaria used to be a major killer in this country before we eliminated it by killing all the infected mosquitoes. The mosquitoes that can catch malaria are still around—they just aren’t sick, these days.
As a mom with 3 kids under 7 who are fighting this, I desperately wish the media would shout from the rooftops about this.
My 5 yr old was rushed to the hospital last week with breathing difficulties & low oxygen levels because of this, after she passed out at the pediatrician’s office. Now, no one wants to test the kids for it. You get all sorts of excuses, and when I pressed the Dr. for testing, they said that per order of the CDC, no kid should be tested unless they were in the ICU. Since my daughter wasn’t in the ICU, no one would test. Unbelievably frustrating!
Please, get your kids vaxc’d this year! I know some folks are opposed, but if your child comes down with D68, they will blame YOU. The only reason why we weren’t blamed for my daughter’s illness was because we were 1st in line at the pediatrician’s for the flu shot. First question in the ER was, “Did your child get her flu shot?”
Finally, to get back on subject, we are pretty sure my kids got D68 from illegal kids. My 7 & 5 yr. olds are in a Sunday School class filled with an overwhelming majority (90%+) of illegal kids. We homeschool, so they did not get it from public school, and we just moved to the area, so no real friends yet. While I am happy the illegal kids are getting a spiritual education, I really, really wish they would stop getting my kids (& other kids)sick!
And yes, I am mad as hell at Obama & Co for allowing this to happen & not controlling it after it became obvious so many kids were becoming sick! No one in the media will touch this issue with a 10 foot pole. Sad!

You know he/they did this on purpose.
Some of them subconsciously supported bringing in disease out of some sense of perverted “fairness”,
but some of them are evil enough to consciously do this.
I’m confused ...what does flu have to do with this illness? Also the flu shot only covers a few strains or less...what state are you in?

The unvaccinated people primarily hurt themselves with their own stupidity. Point is, a measles vaccine greatly reduces the odds of you coming down with measles, even if you still get measles with the vaccine in you, which does happen, you tend to have a shorter, milder case. The other factor to consider about measles is that if you go through life until adulthood with zero measles exposure until adulthood, your first exposure can be really dangerous.
Even moreso, thimerosol is no longer used in MMR vaccines.
I wish it were true that the unvaccinated only would endanger themselves by refusing to take vaccines, but the fact is, they endanger many people besides themselves. Some people do not respond to vaccines, or they don't respond equally well to every vaccine, so might not have immunity even after vaccination. Many vaccines cannot be given to small children or infants. Immunity can wane over time, and adults sometimes forget to get boosters. Some people cannot receive vaccines at all. And so on. The best protection for the people who don't become immune or are immunosuppressed or cannot take vaccines is for everyone to be vaccinated, to develop herd immunity. When people refuse vaccination, they compromise herd immunity.
If the anti-vaxxers only endangered themselves, I probably wouldn't care about their refusal to take vaccines.
I’m in North Carolina, where we don’t have much flu yet, as far as I know.
I think asking about the flu shot allows the doctors & nurses a way to rule out illness possibilities-not sure though.
Absolutely everyone from the pediatricians office to the paramedics to all the hospital staff asked. Maybe they are hoping we didn’t get the flu shot so they could say “See, it’s the flu, really, not D68!”
