The Mormon church is addressing the mystery that has long surrounded undergarments worn by its faithful with a new video explaining the practice in-depth while admonishing ridicule from outsiders about what it considers a symbol of Latter-day Saints' devotion to God.
The four-minute video on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' website compares the white, two-piece cotton "temple garments" to holy vestments worn in other religious faiths such as a Catholic nun's habit or a Muslim skullcap.

Sorry for what your interpretation is but I lived with a Mormon family for a while. Their home was a magnet home for Elders to come once a week for a home cooked meal and have their laundry done so I know what I’m talking about. As for those symbols ...
the angel of death ???
I disagree with your comment. Mormon belief is NOT the same as "people who are true to their faith are protected by God." Many times I personally heard many claims from the mormon pulpit that the garment saved someone from harm. In particular, one bishop claimed that having caught his hand in farm machinery, his arm was drawn into it "and it stopped when reaching the edge of the garment", totally ignoring the fact that his arm couldn't have been drawn in any further in any case as the underarm would have gotten in the way.
As to the claim that one must keep a portion of the body touching the garment at all times, I also personally knew older mormons who told of keeping one arm in the garment while bathing, then switching to the other arm so that the "protection" was always there.
Mormons may not use the term "magic underwear", but the wearing of temple garments is still considered to be a token of their superiority over "gentiles".
From the secret mormon temple endowment ceremony, the following is regarding "the garment":
The LDS Endowment-The initiatory
THE GARMENT
[An officiator clothes the initiate in the garment. The officiator then pronounces the following words.]
Brother _________, having authority, I place this garment upon you [for and in behalf of _________, who is dead], which you must wear throughout your life. It represents the garment given to Adam when he was found naked in the garden of Eden and is called the garment of the holy priesthood.
Inasmuch as you do not defile it, but are true and faithful to your covenants, it will be a shield and a protection to you against the power of the destroyer until you have finished your work on the earth.
This is NOT "They are a protection to them in the same way that people who are true to their faith are protected by God." This seems to be just another attempt to claim mormonism as "another Christian religion."
BTW, the garments may not be "purchased at any store that sells undergarments." They may be purchased only by "worthy" mormons who must present proof at certain church approved outlets.
” They are a protection to them in the same way that people who are true to their faith are protected by God.”
No, they are the antithesis of faith. They are PAGAN, false religion.
A bullet-proof vest would be protection...
“Im a Mormon and I know.”
And by proclamation, you’ve now disqualified your posts from being considered objective.
And, it is worth noting here, mormonism, which your post identifies, is cultic, new-age paganism.
This is all really interesting. You know, I once was asked by FreeRepublic to take a picture of the Mormon garments off my homepage - because the “garment” is sooo specially sacred. LOL!!
Now it is the Mormons themselves posting pictures to innoculate the world to the idea of magic underwear - whatever it takes for damage control. That should be the Mormon motto. They do it every.single.time one of their practices become politically incorrect; polygamy, blacks and the priesthood, now the garment. What next....gay marraige in their “sacred” temples? Yep, that’s MY prediction. Mark my words.
-— And by proclamation, youve now disqualified your posts from being considered objective. -—
By the same token, wouldn’t an anti-Mormon be non-objective? Why not just stick to facts and arguments?
And no, I’m not Mormon.
My mother instructed me in the care of the sacred garment. It must not touch the floor. It must be washed by itself, and hung to dry where no ‘gentile’ eye might spy it.... (so either in the house or in the dark of night). It must be worn next to the body, underneath bra and panties, and after it is worn out, the markings at the nipples, navel, knee, must be cut out and burned - then the material could be used for rags because without the markings, they are no longer sacred.
But then, Mormons on FR have repeatedly called me a liar before for saying these things. HA!
“By the same token, wouldnt an anti-Mormon be non-objective? Why not just stick to facts and arguments?”
One, I am anti-mormonism, NOT anti-mormon. I have friends who are mormon. Therefore, I categorically reject the pejorative description in your post, if you are referring to me.
Second, there is only one objective approach to all truth - analysis based on facts, evidence and logic.
If you are willing to accept facts, evidence and logic - even and especially when they call into question your own opinions, beliefs and convictions - you are objective.
Mormonism fails that test and rejects everything but feelings.
This is true for all religions that rely on simply an appeal to authority as a substitute for “loving God with all your mind.”
And wearing special garb is not Biblical.
The curtain was torn from top to bottom to open the temple and remove the false trappings of “leaders”.
God’s Glory available to all.
No more secrets, no more phony garbs.
Yep! There's no way the mormon leaders will forego the tithing dollars (which would probably be substantial) from gay couples!
I wonder if they will have to change the temple recommend questions?
I wonder about whether #4 will be incorporated into the wedding vows!

The whole “sacred” temple ritual nonsense is just that, nonsense...
Reading the Bible would do mormons a lot of good in coming to an understanding that ALL that occurs in the temples are nothing but pagan and unBiblical rituals...
Look up the definition of a laver (mormons call it a baptismal font) and see what its true purpose was. Then try to justify that necrobaptism nonsense that is in direct conflict with the Bible: Hebrews 9:27 and Ecclesiastes 9:5
And to the comments about garments, CC is spot on...
How do I know? I am an EX-mormon who was in the MP, held a temple recommend and I am currently married to a temple “worthy” mormon...
I get to see those pathetic, butt-ugly, unattractive and unappealing articles of cloth treated like mudslimes treat their koran...
My wife cannot wear anything that would possibly expose one thread of them...and no, it has nothing to do with modesty. And the contortions she goes through to prevent gentiles from laying eyes on them is worthy of Ringling Bros.
That's a very good comparison, SZ.
And now the rest of the story

Thanks Bidimus1. The Mormon Curtain link is very informative.
Mark 7:8
8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.
The Church of JESUS CHRIST really ought to listen to the Jesus of the Bible.
Since it's not secret anymore, maybe it should get worn on the outside.
You know, like a real superhero.
Apparently not

they would have had to been very old, that custom died in the 19th century. There was a Novel written that was popular that told a story of a pioneer that did that, that is where most of those silly stories come from. Unless you knew someone endowed before 1900 is is very unlikely that you ever met anyone who did that.
