Whether writing a movie, TV series, novel, or any other form of storytelling, one fact rises above all: endings are hard. The sentiment is proven on a yearly basis, as countless films deliver an intriguing premise, compelling action, or powerful messages, only to fumble with the closing act. Sometimes, the films final impact can be so poorly executed, it leaves audiences wondering whether the film that preceded it was even worth the trouble.

2001: A Space Odyssey. I hated the ending but I also hated the beginning and the middle. I even hated the credits.
The Lord of the Rings, by leaving out Tolkiens Scouring of the Shire, which was the whole point of the story.
Couldn’t agree more. What the heck? Is scouring not PC or something? Maybe it’s racist.
Oldplayer
I thought The Devil’s Advocate ending was perfect.
“Being Human” with Robin Williams was _amazing_.
Except being gutted by the happy ending.
“A.I.” didn’t just have an ending, it had at least 3 endings - could have stopped just fine at many points along the way.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind(1977).
I paid close attention to this movie ending a few years ago. It made me hate the movie. SPOILER-— he leaves his family.
On the other hand, Titanic, bad movie with a good ending....Leo DiCaprio dies.
I hate the way Gone With the Wind ends. Im probably the only person in the world who hates the ending. :-)
Rhett deserved better. Glad he left her!!
PJ, the grand master didn’t like the scouring if the shire. Simple as that. As anyone knows, directors should have free reign to destroy classics.
Yeah but by that time I realized his wife and kids were better off without the loser.
FLAP with Anthony Quinn. AKA Nobody loves a Drunken Indian or No one loves Flapping Eagle.
I walked into the theater in the last two minutes of the movie. Ruined it for the rest.
Beetlejuice. REAL silly ending.
I wouldn’t say that! I thought the bad guy got his just ending. It was better as I sat through it again and watched the audience reaction!
And Sheree North is always nice!
I thought Eyes Wide Shut was a bizarre movie. But the ending seemed to just trivialize the whole story, in my opinion. In the end, Kubrick boiled it all down to one word, one behavior. It was bizarro world to me.
I did too. I can’t remember the movie’s ending, but I do know how the book ends and I assume they are basically the same. Mitchell did that in preparation for a sequel, but died before writing it.
Which version? THE LAST COMMAND, John Wayne’s version(too long) or the latest version.
Then there was the made for TV version which used lots of footage from THE LAST COMMAND, plot similar to MASSADA.
Scarlett is a selfish narcissistic bitch.
That makes two of us....I never got the hype.
Agreed. They give a glimpse of it in Galadriel's pool but go no further.
Personally though, I'd like to know more or Tom Bombadil:
Tom's country ends here: he will not pass the borders. Tom has his house to mind, and Goldberry is waiting!

Interesting - in all my years, I’ve never double-posted...
How about no country for old men.
