The Lord of the Rings, by leaving out Tolkien’s Scouring of the Shire, which was the whole point of the story.

Agreed. They give a glimpse of it in Galadriel's pool but go no further.

Personally though, I'd like to know more or Tom Bombadil:
Tom's country ends here: he will not pass the borders. Tom has his house to mind, and Goldberry is waiting!

I also wanted to hear more of Tom Bombadil. That could’ve been a whole book by itself.
