The Lord of the Rings, by leaving out Tolkien’s Scouring of the Shire, which was the whole point of the story.

Agreed. They give a glimpse of it in Galadriel's pool but go no further.

Personally though, I'd like to know more or Tom Bombadil:
Tom's country ends here: he will not pass the borders. Tom has his house to mind, and Goldberry is waiting!

The Return of the King was already over three hours long. The Scouring of the Shire would’ve just resulted in ‘ending fatigue’.

For what it’s worth, I think PJ’s trilogy is a pretty darn good adaptation. Given the overall arc and plot of how the trilogy was presented, I’m okay with the Scouring being cut.
