Sarah Cheiker disappeared in 2008 at the age of 89 and was found in 2012, taken away by a family after they sold her house and spent the money, say authorities. Three people have since been arrested on felony charges of endangering the welfare of a dependent person.
An elderly Los Angeles woman reported missing four years ago was found in a desolate shack in Maine after she was allegedly swindled out of her home and dumped there by a trio of thieves, it was reported this week.
Sarah Cheiker, who disappeared in 2008 at the age of 89, was found living in squalor in a small cabin in 2012 while she was suspected of being left for dead by the very people who brought her there, authorities told the Los Angeles Times.
"It was a place I wouldn't have let my dog live in," Lincoln County Sheriff's Det. Robert McFetridge told the paper of the elderly womans conditions.
The bizarre and seemingly tragic end to Cheiker's mysterious disappearance comes after a concerned neighbor went to police after seeing her house in the Fairfax district being suddenly torn down.

Why did the perps only get probation? The article, for me, appears to be missing half of the needed information.
There should be a very special place in hell waiting for these three.
Baseball bat justice...anyone that would do that and think its alright....
Time to bring back public hangings!
Wonder if they are Gypies? Those people are a cancer. Not as bad as Muslims but really close.
Why were they even prosecuted? They didn’t do anything but what the Kenyan Klown and his crew have been doing to the US.
“Wonder if they are Gypies?...”

That was my first thought and I think the answer is most likely “Yes”.
“There should be a very special place in hell waiting for these three.”
My very thought too. Except I was thinking that the special place should be reserved for ANYONE who swindles the elderly. A VERY SPECIAL place.
Having read about several of these scams in the past, the perpetrators usually get the victim to sign power of attorney papers giving them unlimited legal authority to act on their behalf. They then loot their checking and savings accounts, charge credit cards to the limit, sell the house, etc.
In the above case, the abuse of an elderly person charges may have been the only ones the prosecutor could bring with a possibility of a conviction.
gypsies ?
throughout the US in many states, predatory courts, judges and appointees do this via probate/guardianship hearings.
This bunch just acted the same and didn’t have to deal with a middle man.

factual and horrific narratives and all within “legal” bounds.
I didn’t see in the article whether the woman had any family. Perhaps nor.
Something like this should remind us to keep tabs on our older family members. The elderly are particularly vulnerable to these predators.
You are so right.
Prayers up for this poor lady. She’s now penniless, I suppose. I hope the nursing home she is in is a good one. So many of them are not.
This article gives a lot more info than the NY write-up. (I did a search on her name.)

probation??!!!
” Wonder if they are Gypies? Those people are a cancer. Not as bad as Muslims but really close.”
I thought their religion was a form of Islam, or somehow related/rooted in it.
My first thought was Gypsies. The American ones prey on old people. Theyvripped on my great aunt and had left the county before my uncle could find them. They ruined her roof and her house was unfit to live in.
Hubby’s sister did all that to father in law and we filed charges after a 3 yr lawsuit by us against her. They did absolutely NOTHING! Our lawyer put together a flawless case with absolute proof from banks against her before he handed it to the DA. They did nothing.
You know what the really sad thing is? they did, they treated her the way too many now treat their elderly parents. I have seen it happen with several of my Mothers friends, all they care about is getting Mom the hell out of the house so they can sell the property and spend the money that the parents worked hard for.
