Recent Mars Images (Marvin the Martian throws down the kaboom in a guest zot)

Posted on 10/08/2014 10:49:46 AM PDT by aardwolf46

All over the internet recently, sciFy vs. reality and a Mars satellite for petty cash:

That breaks the monopoly. Faced with the spectre of other nations publishing uncensored Mars images, NASA and JPL have started publishing some much more obvious images than they have in the past including a totally uncensored video (JPL) showing large-scale structure.

A few items...

JPL uncensored video showing large-scale structure:

Electrical device of some sort with helical coil wound around it
Device is on the left, about a third of the way down on the image

Gear of some sort.

Kitties are wonderful.

Although I prefer grilled to fried.

Present and accounted for. Waiting for the aide.

A childhood friend found me on Facebook, and we have been catching up on the years in between school and now. Interesting on both sides. I’m keeping all the emails, of course. I will print them and transcribe them as an attachment to my personal history.

Which I’m going to be working on soon. I’ve isolated the box, so now I just need to get it and start dictating it.

I never heard of the party in question. Plus, I was in a completely different country at the time. And I have never supported any political party or advocacy program. I have no unaccounted for sources of income. I never did cocaine with George W. Bush. I don’t even own a firearm. I have never taken illicit photos of Madonna. You can’t prove any of it.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking with it.

The aide (same as yesterday afternoon) came to stay with Dad at last. Mom and I are going back in a few minutes to meet with someone regarding nursing or something. Dad was doing pretty well this morning; I sat with him for about an hour.

I’m glad to hear of the situation improving with your dad. And your other has every right to “meet with someone” about his care. She’s paying for it, so she should get the best he deserves.

I’ve been gone for three-1/2 days and return to find hundreds of new UT posts. Although I’m certain each one merits reading, can anyone explain what’s happened in seven words or less (or in a haiku)?

I guess the high point (or low, if you are Tax-chick) is that her dad took a spill a few nights ago. The good thing is that she flew down to FL yesterday to visit.

The bad thing is that he needs more care than he has been getting. The good thing is Old Tax Lady is seeing that all is shipshape.

The bad thing is that we miss her. The good thing is that she will be back by Saturday evening, I think.

Any questions?

If so, I’m probably not the one to ask...

Thanks, Scoutmaster. Today we got Jackie, the excellent aide, back to stay with Dad until 7:00. Another aide is coming then for the night; Mom has confirmed it with the services coordinator. We’re having supper tonight with some old Navy people who lived on our street in Rhode Island when I was 2. Jack and Dad were in Vietnam together, 1968-69.

Wonder why I asked.

That’s my ‘sorry I wasted your time’ haiku.

The nurse we met with at noon from “home care services” said they’ll get Dad some therapy to help with his balance, and also that a nurse will check on him weekly. She seemed very competent. He ate a good lunch with Jackie the aide and then would probably have a nap.

He seemed steadier today. Yesterday he would take a couple of steps and then sway backwards, and as he’s pretty tall and a solid build, he could knock over a small helper. Last night’s aide was a good-sized girl, wasn’t going to be bowled over.

Off to dinner!

Thanks for the update, and I’m relieved that your dad is getting the care he needs.

And you...are you having a restful time with your mom? I know you’ve needed some downtime, so put your feet up and enjoy!
