Old King Winter
Old King Winters on his throne
In robes of ermine white;
The crown of jewels on his head
Now glitters bright with light.
The little flakes of snow and hail,
And tiny pearls of sleet,
Are with the wild winds dancing
All round his magic feet.
His beard is white, his cheeks are red,
His heart is filled with cheer;
His seasons best some people say;
The best of all the year.
Anna E. Skinner
Merry Christmas, all!

I don’t think that Lynn-Dah-The-Dawg has ever experienced snow.
My Boston Dogs LOVED it.

My dogs have always loved new-fallen snow, while it is still fluffy and soft. :)

HAPPY GRATI-TUESDAY AMY'S PLACE!
"FIRST SNOW IN ALSACE"
The snow came down last night like moths Burned on the moon; it fell till dawn, Covered the town with simple cloths.
Absolute snow lies rumpled on What shellbursts scattered and deranged, Entangled railings, crevassed lawn.
As if it did not know theyd changed, Snow smoothly clasps the roofs of homes Fear-gutted, trustless and estranged.
The ration stacks are milky domes; Across the ammunition pile The snow has climbed in sparkling combs.
You think: beyond the town a mile Or two, this snowfall fills the eyes Of soldiers dead a little while.
Persons and persons in disguise, Walking the new air white and fine, Trade glances quick with shared surprise.
At childrens windows, heaped, benign, As always, winter shines the most, And frost makes marvelous designs.
The night guard coming from his post, Ten first-snows back in thought, walks slow And warms him with a boyish boast:
He was the first to see the snow.

Tiny Christmas
"Where do the bugs spend Christmas, Dad?
Where do they go when its cold?
What do they give each other, Daddy?"
Then she sat, and she waited to be told.
So I sat down beside her and held her hand,
And I told her the Truth about Things.
That all of the good bugs have a party,
Where they wait for what Santa Claus brings.
All the fireflies get fresh batteries,
That will last them until the next year,
The butterflies all get new fancy designs,
They so like to be stylish, My Dear!
The ants will get pants that have pockets,
They must carry so much special gear,
They can pack a few nibbles to munch on,
While theyre working so hard through the year!
The nice bees will each get a compass,
To help them as they fly about,
And they all get the tiniest radio,
Thats to give one another a shout!
For when a bee finds some flowers,
She doesnt just keep them herself,
She calls on her friends, and they help her,
To put honey jars up on the shelf!
So what they are doing in Winter,
Or when its too cold or too wet?
They all sit around writing letters,
And they send them to Santa! You bet!
Up at the North Pole theres a section,
For the notes that are tiny and faint,
But thats where the bugs tiny letters,
Get the message across to a Saint!
Then Santa makes sure that they get things,
With the help of each reindeers hoof,
Every stop that he makes for a chimney,
They sprinkle out dust on the roof!
And that dust settles down where the bugs are,
And then magically finds its way,
To the right kind of insect that needs it,
And it fills the bugs stocking that day!
In the Spring, when you see a bright butterfly,
Or a bee zooming off on its task,
Just remember the good get rewarded,
But its also important to ask!

Lasting Peace
On Christmas Eve 1914, during the First World War, the guns fell silent along a 30-mile stretch of the Western Front. Soldiers peered cautiously over the tops of trenches while a few emerged to repair their positions and bury the dead. As darkness fell, some German troops set out lanterns and sang Christmas carols. Men on the British side applauded and shouted greetings.
The next day, German, French, and British troops met in no mans land to shake hands, share food, and exchange gifts. It was a brief respite from war that soon ended when the artillery and machine guns roared to life again. But no one who experienced The Christmas Truce, as it became known, would ever forget how it felt and how it fueled their longing for lasting peace.
In Isaiahs prophecy of the coming Messiah we read, His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). By His death on the cross, Jesus removed the no mans land between us and God. For He Himself is our peace (Eph. 2:14).
In Jesus we can find lasting peace with God and harmony with each other. This is the life-changing message of Christmas!
Hark! The herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled! Wesley
Only in Christ can true peace be realized.
Unity is a common theme in the New Testament writings of Paul. Jesus has brought us peace with God and therefore we should also be at peace with each other. In Ephesians 2, Paul talks about peace between Jew and Gentile. Despite the centuries-old separation of the two groups, God in Christ Jesus has broken down the middle wall of separation (v.14). In the temple there was a wall beyond which Gentiles could not pass; it formed the boundary of the court of the Gentiles. However, Jesus has removed the barriers between God and us and between us and others. Now we all are members of the household of God (v.19).

Merry Christmas from The Swamp!
By ML
(Inspired by Bob)
In Florida, the bugs don’t know
It’s winter, cuz there ain’t no snow.
So just like all the rest of the year
They fill us human beings with fear!
Mosquitoes never feel a chill
So it’s all year for the heartworm pill
And keep the dog out of the sticks
To keep her free from fleas and ticks
The spider webs are big and thick
Just like a 50’s Horror Flick
And Lo! A thundering hoard approaches!
Palmetto Bugs(They’re really roaches!)
be careful where you park your pants
You might sit on some fire ants.
And Santa endures countless mockings
When the centipedes hang up their stockings!
Merry Christmas From the Everglades!

ROSEMARY
For the sake of some things
That be now no more
I will strew rushes
On my chamber-floor,
I will plant bergamot
At my kitchen-door.
For the sake of dim things
That were once so plain
I will set a barrel
Out to catch the rain,
I will hang an iron pot
On an iron crane.
Many things be dead and gone
That were brave and gay;
For the sake of these things
I will learn to say,
"An it please you, gentle sirs,"
"Alack!" and "Well-a-day!"
Edna St. Vincent Millay
Merry Christmas, everyone!
