Some decades ago, I came across this limerick. Does anybody know who wrote it?
Oysters make pearls to counteract irritants,
Quite a rare skill, acquired by inheritance.
Humans, annoyed, react much less notably,
Seldom with gems, and often unquotably.
Thanks. (A Kipling and Service fan)

Hope your day has been a good one, ((Meg))...and not too chilly, where you are. I’m still playing catch up, after being away.
Warming up some of the soup I made and had in the freezer ;-)

It has the flavor of Ogden Nash, but I haven't done a search.
It isn't mine.
This one's mine:
Pearls
Children are a lot like pearls. It takes some grit to start,
And then you nurse them like a grudge, and keep them near your heart.
You want to give them shelter, to protect them from the world,
But they keep growing bit-by-bit. You end up "Mother of Pearl"ed.
Your face takes on a lustre, your heart a softened edge,
And you don't want to surrender them, it takes the sharpest wedge,
To pry them from your fingertips, to tear them from your grip.
Only giving them up to love can make you let them slip.
Children must learn their way in life. They are, of course, your seeds,
They cannot grow to strength themselves, unless chance meets their needs.
They find it while away from you, and as they search and explore,
But only you will know the little bit of hurt that is at their core.

Spot on.
But is it a *little* pain? It was easier to part with my gall bladder.

Unless your gall bladder was removed in a darkened alley, you probably had anesthesia.
I suppose that’s why fathers drink at weddings.

Creeping Christmas?
I love Christmas. The celebration of the birth of Christ and the beauty and wonder of the season make it the most wonderful time of the year for me. In recent years, however, the season has been accompanied by a growing irritation. Every year Christmas stuff comes out earlier and earliercreeping all the way back to early fall.
Christmas used to be limited to December, but now we find radio stations playing Christmas music in early November. Stores start advertising Christmas specials in October, and Christmas candy appears in late September. If were not careful, this growing deluge can numb useven sour us to what should be a season of gratitude and awe.
When that irritation begins to rise in my spirit, I try to do one thing: Remember. I remind myself what Christmas means, who Jesus is, and why He came. I remember the love and grace of a forgiving God who sent us rescue in the Person of His Son. I remember that, ultimately, only one gift really mattersGods indescribable gift! (2 Cor. 9:15). I remember that the salvation Christ came to provide is both the gift and the Giver all wrapped up in one.
Jesus is our life all year long, and He is the greatest wonder. O come, let us adore Him!
Living God, I thank You for the unspeakable gift
of Your Son. Draw my heart to Your own, that my
worship to and gratitude for Your Son will never be
diminished by the distractions of the world around me.
Jesus is our life throughout the year.
In todays passage, Paul explains that our salvation is the work of our triune God. First, God sent forth His Son (v.4). Second, Jesus came to accomplish our redemptionsetting us free from the bondage of the lawand to secure our adoption, making us sons of God and enabling us to enjoy the full privileges as Gods children (v.5). Third, God gave us the Holy Spiritthe Spirit of His Son, who endears and enables us to cry out Abba, Father! (v.6). The work all three persons of the Holy Trinity did to secure our salvation is also explained by Paul in Ephesians 1:3-14 and by Peter in 1 Peter 1:2. Jesus spoke of this as well (John 14:16-18,23-26; 15:26).

Yesterday I showed up to teach a little girl her guitar and vocal lesson, when she bounced to the door with her tablet playing Dean Martin, singing Christmas Songs.
I was a little stunned at the “Christmas Creep”, but got right into it, and taught her several Christmas Songs on guitar. It was also an opportunity to share the real meaning of Christmas!
Hallelujah!
Your posting today brought a smile to my face!

Happy Thursday, FRiends.
Last night was another meeting with Freshmen Counselors.
Received Marissa's Progress report.
She is doing good .... 5 A's, 1 B and 2 C's.
I'm surprised with her High School ... they work very hard at keeping parents up to date and involved.
I'm thankful for My Marissa!
Wishing everyone a Thankful Thursday.
