NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will reportedly not face charges in the death of fellow driver driver Kevin Ward Jr. Ward was hit and killed in a horrifying crash that was caught on film last month, but a grand jury decided today that they will not bring up charges against Stewart,TMZ reports. The case was handed to a grand jury earlier this month by Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo, who made the decision to present the case after reviewing evidence of the tragic crash. Ward was fatally struck by Stewart while getting out of his car to confront the racing veteran, after the two collided on a prior lap at a race on August 9. Tantillo is expected to release a statement on the ruling at 3pm.

Well, first I’m not happy that this incident took place. I’m also not happy that it had to go this far.
Toxicology tests showed found Ward to under the influence — enough to impair his judgment.
...
Wow. Ward also caused the initial accident by being in Stewart’s blind spot coming out of a turn, and then getting out of his car and approaching other cars was beyond stupid. Comments from Ward’s family indicates they may be hot heads, too. They should apologize to Stewart.
That’s true, I hope his conscience can handle it.
If I am reading the update right TMZ is reporting that:
2:01 PM PT — Officials say Kevin Ward Jr. was high on marijuana at the time of his death.
No other information was given.

Pot.
Breaking now.
“Ward should have never gotten out of the car.”
This. I was driving along the Interstate at a mere 85 mph (the speed limit) when 3 guys ran across the road.
I did not register them standing in the road until I was in the process of driving by them. They HAPPENED to be in the next lane when I went pass.
I am not a guy with bad reflexes or a lack of attention or who is unfamiliar with speed.
I don’t think the human brain can process some things fast enough.
How many people have actually SEEN the whole video?
It sure looks intentional to me.
There was not anything there anyway.
Thanks, I had completely forgotten of which venue we were speaking....won’t be guilty of extrapolating!
The cBS radio news just reported on the grand jury report on Tony Stewart but conveniently forgot to mention the doper Kevin Ward...
Meh, they can’t tell from toxicology tests if he was high at the time, or smoked a joint three weeks ago.
Well, apparently now, many in law enforcement, probably dozens of NASCAR officials, and now a Grand Jury.
The Grand Jury was for another set of eyes on the case to cover the prosecutor from the press questions.
Could explain two things:
1) Why he thought Stewart wrecked him - that was not the case, they didn't even touch, and the kid wrecked himself.
2) Why he chose to run into the path of a moving racecar.
Good point.
Let the looting and rioting begin!!!. Oh.. Wait.
Have you ever sat in a sprint race car? There are many blind spots and the tiny windshield is covered in dirt (at a dirt track). Add artificial lighting at night and it’s a real possibility you can’t see a guy in a black jumpsuit on a dark track.
This award guy had a history of foolish behavior on the the track and a general disregard of the safety rules.
if that’s true, it’s extremely rare - like almost never.
I can’t imagine a circumstance why anyone would want to do that. It would seem almost suicidal to me.
