After having been a smoker for just about 40 years, I made the plunge.
I was very surprised - it pretty much totally eliminated the urge to smoke! Well, except for the hand thingy... but it took away the urge!
It's been ten days so far. I have a nearby pack of smokes sittin around if need be.
Curious about others situations and experiences.
After 50 years of pack+/day smoking and three Chantix courses (Chantix is great, but I was back within weeks), I got a Vapage U-Turn 1300. That was May 22 and I haven’t had a smoke since.
I suppose inhaling antifreeze can be a problem down the road, but it can’t be worse than tobacco. Other than that I have found zero negatives. I stopped coughing after two days, I can vape damn near anywhere (no one can smell it), I don’t stink, I’ve saved enough for a cruise, I don’t have to put up with smoke-Nazis, the wife is happier.
Spend $100 on a good machine and a couple of bottles of juice and give it a try.
Roll your own. It’s pennies on the dollar cheaper. No more $7.00 a day habit, just about $5 a week now. It’s frustrating and difficult, and you’ll cut your smoking down to 10% of what you used to. Don’t cheat either, buy the short papers and no hand rollers. After about 3 months of this, you’ll just say heck with it and quit altogether.
Congrats to everyone successfully quitting the mass-produced cancer sticks. A friend recently told me that American Spirit (before they were bought, at least) were the ONLY brand that didn’t contain all the chemicals to enhance the nicotine.
I quit about 15 or so years ago ‘almost’ cold turkey. I don’t understand the vaping thing, but that’s just me. It took 6-7 years for the inhale reflex to cease before I could once again enjoy a good cigar, which I now enjoy once a week or so.
The wifey quit her addiction (literally...I never thought she could do it) about 2 years ago with the help of vaping. She’s still vaping and we’re still paying higher life ins rates for it (still nicotine in the blood), AND she gained weight (her complaint, not mine)...but she’s not smoking.
Kudos to anyone able to quit at all. Criticism for vaping is misplaced IMHO (and yes, I can smell them; I don’t like her vaping in the same room).
Just found a whole forum dedicated to the subject.

Don’t have time to check it out right now though.
Congratulations...hey, if it helps you get rid of an unwanted habit that’s great news! At least until the government regulates or outlaws it...*sigh*
It sounds like vaping is a wonderful alternative for people. It’s just water, isn’t it? I will have to look it up.
Most I know who re-order juice gradually drop the nicotine %. Thats an interesting trend.
Been vaping for two years, never went back to cigarettes. My personal favorite is the EGO kit with Kanger coils and Turkish Tobacco juice.
I quit the smoking habit cold turkey in March of ‘86.
The company I was working for presented me with a new Chevy Caprice. The new car smelled so good I couldn’t bring myself to smoke in it...
Congrats! I am a proud vaper too. 40+ years of a pack and a half a day. Quit cold on April 1 this year. Never looked back and am happy as can be. I now use no nicotine in my juice. Love the flavors! The hand to mouth thing still has me, but that’s ok! No more horrid chemicals. I can breathe again. No coughing and lots more energy! They are miracles for quitting the cancer sticks...and still people complain. They have NO clue! Anyone having a fit over a quick whiff of cinnamon roll or English toffee needs to get a life!
I quit after 30 years. Currently using these guys:

My suggestion would be to spend the money and get the good equipment. The initial investment is kinda high, but maintaining the atomizers and fluid supply is far cheaper and healthier than regular cigarettes.
Best of luck to ya.

I quit about 45yrs ago. Cold turkey from a 2-2.5 pack a day, unfiltered habit. Wife quit from pack a day 2 years later. Must admit that it wasn’t easy especially because we were constantly engaged in a multitude of social activities and a high tension work schedule-think about Vietnam era, Far East support activities. Make your desire to quit known to your friends, co-workers and family and ask for their support. It helps a lot!
Vaping is the best way to quit smoking. You get the nicotine you crave, plus, you still have something to manipulate, similar to a cigarette.
You can then gradually drop the nicotine content over time and before you know it, you’re vaping 0% nicotine! and when you reach that! then what’s the point of vaping?
Vaping is much cheaper than cigarettes, and doesn’t have all of cancer-causing chemicals, so it’s safer, too.
Started out on South Beach smokes, but the batteries suck and the cartridges are expensive, so I got an atomizer and started using the liquid.
I’ll agree with kaveo and tell you buy a Kanger. Most cigarette stores have them for around $25. They’ll have the batteries to go with them. The Kangers last and you get a nice ‘hit’ off them. They are much better than the stupid ecigs.
I quit smoking 2 yrs ago using a Kanger.
Good for you!
After smoking for 45+ years I bought a Vape unit and have not had a desire for even one puff off of a cigarette.
I stopped coughing within a week and started to feel better every day. Try the “Encore” brand (guaranteed for life). The kit comes with 2 battery units and three igniters and cost $50.00. That’s about the same cost of 5 packs of cigs here in NY.
**Make sure the liquid is MADE IN USA** Some is made in China and we all know about their history for lack of regulations and concern for our safety. I use Crown Royal brand or Criss Cross liquid and have now moved down to the lower “Medium” dose of nicotine. Next step is “Low”, then to the zero dosage followed by throwing the whole thing in the garbage.
Six months without a cigarette. Plus, I’m not paying the high taxes to the state to squander on foolish social programs.
DO IT! Throw away that pack you have hidden in your desk drawer. You can do it. Good luck and let us know your progress.
There will be quite a few suggestions and after doing this for a couple of years, I realize I gave up a habit for a hobby. Kanger is good, so is the Visions Vivi Nova. I prefer an eGo Battery and recommend at least 900 - 1100 ma. The adjustable voltage batteries are the best in my opinion. If you want to vape all day, you need at least 2 eGo batteries unless you want to carry a charger.
Total investment should be about:
$25 per battery
$25 for Kanger or Visions
$15 for 3-5 replacement coils (can be cleaned, but will last a week or two each)
?? Charger
$15 - $25 for 30 ml liquid (About 2 - 3 weeks worth)
Your ongoing costs will be liquid and coils for the rest of a year or two.
