What movie would you like to see redone?
Posted on 08/23/2014 7:57:56 PM PDT by MNDude
Most people will always say that a movie that has been redone never should have been redone (the older someone is, the more they are apt to feel that way too). There are probably a few movies of course that is as good as better than the original (like True Grit?). There are also a few movies that might be nice to see remade if the original has a nice concept but was horribly directed or some movies might serve better updated for the times. What movie(s) would you like to see redone?

World War Z.
Did you ever listen to the audio book? Its great. Its voiced by multiple readers, so its more like a radio play. Best audio book Ive ever listened to.
Agreed! But I suspect it suffered from being an abridged version.
Do it again, full length!

Also, Heinleins Starship Troopers without the mis-characterization of fascistic government, include power-suits, tactical nukes, women as starship pilots, education in citizenship, etc. . . And including the war with the Skinnies.

Ann Savage’s performance in “Detour” can NEVER be topped. The thing of nightmares. Still makes my skin crawl, just thinking of her character. Ever since I first saw the film forty years ago.

Yes, we had a rule about “no abridgments” when we started listening, but we didn’t realize about that one. Glad we didn’t. I’m going to read the book one of these days.

Man on Fire. Although the Denzel Washington version was actually a remake of a truly appalling original.
But they buggered up the remake too, just not as bad.
Towards the end of his life, the once incredibly talented Tony Scott's films became unwatchable. The fast edits and constant changes in formats were enough to give a viewer seizures.
Speaking of talented Scotts, Tony's brother Ridley needs to remake Prometheus since he screwed the first one up so much. Never had I more looked forward to a film and been more disappointed by the end result than I was watching that POS.

My mom always watched old movies, I I did too. I loved The Inn of the Sixth Happiness with Ingrid Bergman. It was a true story.
Thank you for the information. I did not know that this was a true story.

I, Robot was a collection of short stories. I dont really see how you can make a movie based on that which actually followed Asimov at all. Harlen Ellison wrote an adapted screenplay which was published as a book in the 1990s.

The miniseries was generally better than the movie.

It could really be done today and it's a timely message - Colossus: The Forbin Project
Good choice.
The movie of the Tom Wolfe novel, Bonfire of the Vanities, was a disaster. Slipshod and horribly miscast. Possibly it deserves another chance. But maybe it was unfilmable.
I find a lot of these Marvel Comics movies coming out now worthless and unwatchable. There's value in the characters and premises and maybe Hollywood will give them another chance someday and do a better job.

The Longest Day without the schmaltz, a production similar to A Bridge Too Far.
Schmaltzy it was, but which one was the better movie, the one you'd want to see if you had to choose?
