Most people will always say that a movie that has been redone never should have been redone (the older someone is, the more they are apt to feel that way too). There are probably a few movies of course that is as good as better than the original (like True Grit?). There are also a few movies that might be nice to see remade if the original has a nice concept but was horribly directed or some movies might serve better updated for the times. What movie(s) would you like to see redone?
CARRIE Starring Bela Pelosi!!!
We get past the Ewoks by accepting the fact that they did not have a budget to do a giant Wookie battle at the end of Jedi, and we liked the idea that Chewie as unique.
Jar Jar . well, that is just Uncle George’s middle finger to us fans who thought his Howard The Duck was the worst movie ever made.
I would be happy if they did a decent Oz Prequel or Sequel that was a lot like the original in terror and scope. The Great and Powerful Oz just plain sucked.
Bad casting. Mila Kunis doesn’t work as the Wicked Witch and neither did James Franco as Oz.
It will be interesting to see how Into The Woods does. Might mean a decent fantasy musical like an Oz sequel could be done.
Thank you for the information. I did not know that this was a true story.
Never read I am Legend, so I can’t very well comment on that (though I have seen both the Heston and Will Smith versions).
I, Robot was a collection of short stories. I don’t really see how you can make a movie based on that which actually followed Asimov at all. Most of the shorts are quirky little things, not really script worthy. You might try doing the R. Daneel Olivaw stuff (Caves of Steel etc.), but I’m not sure how much appeal those would have.
Starship Troopers has the makings of a good war movie with lots of good action and thought provoking content. It could be made into a good movie if someone actually had that as a goal.
Star Wars episode 1 & 2
Star Wars episode 6. The ending and the ewokes were lame.
“The Great Gatsby”. Fourth time’s the charm.
“Detour”. The original was great, but it could be retold with modern scenary and still work, though they won’t find an actress to play the bad girl so perfectly.
“Heaven Can Wait”. This time Beatty can play the Rams’ owner!
If this counts, I would love to see a faithful movie adaptation of John Christopher’s Tripods trilogy. Disney has the rights. The TV series was never completed. Light CGI would work well with this.
Hated it.
Was appalled.
Took my kids hoping for fun — was “treated” to nightmarish horror.
Fantastic Voyage
The SyFy channel version of the Dune books was actually pretty good. The 1980s version had so much cut out it didn’t work well.
You’re totally correct and no explanation needed.
I totally agree...and I love Jeff Bridges.
Big John rocked. Although Campbell was very stilted in his performance...if you read the book, his performance stayed very much in line with the tone.
I will sit thru the whole dang movie just to see John Wayne put the reins in his teeth and charge. As an aside...I tried this once (sans blazing guns). Kids...DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. I darn near jerked every tooth out of my head.
Gattaca
Cheaper By the Dozen and Bells on their toes (movies on efficiency expert Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Jr)
They Live
Hard to beat the 1st one but the 2nd one ... ugh!
Seven Days In May (With a Happy Ending)
“Earth Versus The Flying Saucers.” But I’d rather see them do “The Mote In God’s EYE.”
